How do you comeback from this? They didn't get the receiver/s they needed and there has to be bad blood all over after this debacle. I don't see how this ends well at all. We? should have parted ways and spent the $ to get another QB. I can't root for this migit ever again.![]()
Why Washington's Demond Williams returned after $6 million transfer gamble
The day after his audacious announcement to break his contract and transfer, Williams sobered up to the reality he may need the Supreme Court's help to actually pull the move offwww.cbssports.com

5'9" in cleats.Agree 100%. There’s a reason Kiffin wanted to hitch his first two years at LSU up to Williams. He’s really good. Judd trying to make him Jared Goff or Tom Brady might be his major problem. He’s 5’9”, do everything you can to make him a college All American. He most likely won’t be a pro and that’s okay for UW if Fish could maximize his talent. We’ll see.
I don't know how you recover unless NIL has already made the concept of "team" expire yearly. I am not sure we are quite there yet though. How do you comeback from this? Agree. When the shitbird's own father brags and insists he cash cow loser of a son has played his last game at Washington and no matter what he's not coming back, there's no coming back from that. The team? is absolutely fucked and if Fish had any balls, he'd bench the migit, take a stand and run with a kid who wants to wear purple and gold.I don't know how you recover unless NIL has already made the concept of "team" expire yearly. As stated a hundred times, in my mind, the only way to proceed, once Demond declared, was for UW to let him go and collect damages and then buy at least a game manager for QB and one or two more DL. Maybe a WR.
If UW's intention was to make a point that the B1G NIL contract template was enforceable then show it by collecting the damages.
Jedd need some/all blame here, regardless of any pressure from the B1G and UW AD, if this goes to hell. I am okay with that. If he read the room that badly, then he pays the consequences as does UW's on field performance (unfortunately).
I think in the situation "UW" was not a single entity. The fans probably leaned towards telling him the LEAVE and Chun might have felt the same but the coaches needed him back for their own good so would have been blowing up his phone to return.I guess I'm having trouble figuring out how UW could have let Demond leave and collected damages. If they let him leave wouldn't they have been granting him his release? And if so, how do you collect damages then?
By coming back, Demond fucked UW, and guaranteed he would get paid. LSU wasn't going to pay the NIL penalty for him. Neither would any other school. So his only option was to say, I'm coming back. At that time UW's options are, OK, we'll take you and keep the contract we both signed. Or, no, we don't want you. In which case any fake bored attorney wouldn't have much trouble turning that into, I guess you just let him out of his contract.
Demond played the nuke r card to perfection.
There are two provisions (that apply here) in the B1G NIL contract template.I guess I'm having trouble figuring out how UW could have let Demond leave and collected damages. If they let him leave wouldn't they have been granting him his release? And if so, how do you collect damages then?

This whole thing came down days after signing, so I doubt seriously UW paid him anything yet. So not paying the few million they were going to pay Demond wasn’t an issue. That’s not recovering damages. The damages would have been that penalty paid by whichever team took him, or by Demond himself. That would have been tough to recover if you let him go. So again, I don’t really see what else they could have done. Let him go for nothing or take him back once he said he was staying. There are two provisions (that apply here) in the B1G NIL contract template.
First, UW is not required to place Demond in the transfer portal because he is signed with UW. But, I don't believe they are prohibited from doing so.
Second, Demond had an obligation to remain at UW, for duration of the NIL contract, or UW could pursue damages which would be the amount of the NIL payment to Demond.
I don't know whether the whole (approx) $5 million is paid to Demond upon signing but if it is paid monthly or so UW could have just withheld remaining payment and directed it to some one else. If they had paid the entire sum to Demond, and he did not fulfill his agreement why couldn't UW collect damages or enforce the contract and force reimbursement of ill gotten compensation?
UW actually refused to enter Demond into the portal as per the signed contract. Demond could not go because he was not in the portal. This is precisely where UW fucked up. But I think they were more interested in showing Demond and his father how fucking stupid they are.
Yes. Let him go or make him stay. UW chose to make hm stay when he didn't want to be here and it is going to be super hard to pretend the 48 hours didn't happen. This whole thing came down days after signing, so I doubt seriously UW paid him anything yet. I don’t disagree. I wish they told him to pound rocks. But if they did, they couldn’t have also collected damages. That’s all I’m saying.Yes. Let him go or make him stay. UW chose to make hm stay when he didn't want to be here and it is going to be super hard to pretend the 48 hours didn't happen.
Finding a game manager QB thru the portal (or on the roster) for half of Demond's NIL/revenue sharing money and buying a couple of DLs and an edge, with the money they did not spend on a QB would have left UW in much better shape than they are now.
I’d like to know what the verbiage of the contract is. Is he paid by game? Does he get the full amount if he’s “injured”? If he really doesn’t want to be here whats to stop him from shutting the season down after 4-5 games and redshirting? That saves him 2 years to max out his last chances to make life changing money. I think that’s why the Stanford kid is here. More competition for McMillan to put the best possible QB on the field if/when Demond claims injury. How does UW prove he’s injured or not? Find a private doctor that will corroborate the story. I don’t like any of this.I don’t disagree. I wish they told him to pound rocks. But if they did, they couldn’t have also collected damages.
