World Coal Demand And Exports Set For New Record High In 2024

The world’s consumption and exports of thermal coal are expected to rise this year from 2023 to hit fresh record-highs, according to export and power generation data cited by Reuters columnist Gavin Maguire.
Coal-fired electricity generation has increased so far this year by 2% compared to 2023, to hit new highs as power demand in emerging markets grows. Coal power emissions are also set to rise to a record high in 2024, according to data from energy think tank Ember quoted by Maguire.
Moreover, global exports of thermal coal – the type used in coal power plants – have also climbed this year, due to rising demand in India and China in particular.
The world’s thermal coal exports rose by 9 million metric tons between January and November 2024 compared to the same period of last year, per vessel-tracking data by commodity analysts at Kpler.
Indonesia, the largest coal exporter in the world, is set to ship more than 500 million tons of coal this year, for the first time ever, according to Kpler’s estimates cited by Reuters’s Maguire.
Last year, coal demand grew by 2.6% to hit an all-time high, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said in a July overview of the coal markets. Back then, the agency expected coal demand for 2024 to remain broadly flat compared to 2023.

A leftwing hack from Pro Publica put together a smear on Pete Hegseth claiming that he was never applied to get into West Point, from which he graduated.
Note that that already doesn't even make sense -- you can't graduate from a school you were never applied to get into.
But the leftwing reputation-assassins don't need their smears to make sense. Their Soyjack readership just wants to read lies about their enemies.
Hegseth found out Pro Publica was about to run this entirely-fabricated smear and published his acceptance letter welcoming him to West Point.

Too bad there's no one who ever served in the military working in leftwing media propaganda operations, or else they'd have the basic knowledge to knock down obvious hoaxes like this.
Some, like Mary Margeret Olsen, pointed out that this guy had wanted to publish a false smear, but now stumbled into a true story -- why are leftwing administrators at West Point giving reporters fake stories to smear the incoming SecDef?

West Point said an employee made a mistake by claiming Pete Hegseth, President-elect Donald Trump's nominee to head the Defense Department, was not accepted into the military academy.
An academy spokesperson told The Washington Times on Wednesday that Mr. Hegseth, a retired Army major, was offered acceptance into West Point's class of 2003 but an employee provided a media outlet "an incorrect statement" on Dec. 10 involving his admission, apparently without reviewing an archived database.
The employee erroneously told ProPublica that Mr. Hegseth did not even apply to West Point. The publication was preparing to write a story countering Mr. Hegseth's claim he was accepted into the vaunted Army academy…

Sweden Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Energy Ebba Busch stated today that “she’s furious with Germany” for dismantling its nuclear power plants, causing a spike in energy prices in Sweden.
Southern Sweden has record-high energy prices today due to having send electricity to Germany via undersea power cables today.
Cold weather coupled with no wind has driven up the demand in Germany from other sources than wind. EU regulations force Sweden to send that electricity to Germany, driving up prices in southern Sweden today to be nearly 200 times higher than they are in northern Sweden.
A 10-minute shower in southern Sweden costs around USD 5 during today’s price spike.
Ebba Busch added that Germany’s decision to dismantle its nuclear power plants has also other detrimental effects for Europe:
“I’m furious with the Germans. They have made a decision for their country, which they have the right to make; it’s their right to decide. But it has had very serious consequences, also for the EU’s competitiveness because we see that German competitiveness has dropped significantly.”
She said that Germany’s actions have also reduced its ability to help Ukraine.
– “After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, they still chose to dismantle their nuclear power plants… I respect that people can have different opinions about nuclear power plants, but we could have kept it. They are important because they are baseload power plants.
Having access to such baseload power plants would have increased the transmission capacity from Germany to other electricity price areas in Europe, driving down prices for all of us.”

McDonald’s Surpasses FBI In Number Of Shooters Apprehended In 2024
U.S. — Fast-food chain McDonald's has officially surpassed the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the number of shooters apprehended in 2024.
Despite having thousands of highly trained agents tasked with stopping violent mass shooters, the entirety of the FBI was bested by a single part-time McDonald's cashier.
"Not again," sighed Director Wray, handing over his resignation. "I don't know how McDonald's does it. How did they beat us at arresting shooters, all while making perfectly crispy fries, a solid breakfast, and surprisingly good coffee? We just can't compete with the golden arches."
In light of this development, Congress has announced all FBI agents will be required to do an apprenticeship at McDonald's to hone their craft. "If you can't beat them, join them," said Congressmen Rand Paul, explaining the new measure. "Every agent will spend time working the drive-through and cashier lines as we work to bring the FBI up to McDonald's level. They will learn how to catch bad guys and cook delicious nuggets. It's a no-brainer."
At publishing time, the DOGE had announced to save costs, it will simply replace all FBI agents with current McDonald's cashiers.
