Troy Dannen selling couch?

I mean, it’s going to be tough to retain anyone in the AD seat on the half-share, plus all the shit they need to fix in the current budget (almost certainly including substantial layoffs/other “hard decisions”), plus all the ties that need to be rebuilt to a donor/alum base which has been systematically abandoned and disengaged. I’m sure Dannen was surprised how hard it was to get anyone to give money to the program even during a national championship run for football (and how many historical grievances, valid or otherwise, donors/alums rolled out as to why they weren’t/wouldn’t)
This is not a job at this point for a good ol’ boy backslapping AD - it’s for a finance-focused person who systematically and dispassionately (ruthlessly) right sizes the organization and budget. Just getting the current revenue streams and cost savings flowing into the right places would rapidly solve some of the current inherent problems. Then when the full share kicks in, you can go back to the vapid do nothing type we’ve had over the last couple if you want, I guess.

The narrative is that Dannen was a jock sniffer and if you weren't a current or former athlete he gave zero fucks about you.
Say what you want about Softy, but it's pretty dumb if you're the UW AD and you're not making buddies with him. He is far and away the number one media outlet for UW.

The full share is never going to actually happen (2030), the full scale consolidation will occur before the Big10 renegotiation occurs.

North:

Michigan
tOSU
PSU
Wisconsin
USC
Oregon
ND
UCLA
UW
Nebraska

South:

Florida
Georgia
Tennessee
Alabama
LSU
TAMU
UT
Oklahoma
FSU
Clemson

teams like Clemson, FSU, Neb, Wisconsin, UW, and UCLA are obviously on the chopping block if they cant get their shit together in the next few years regardless of current media share.

conferences will never kick out school members outside of disciplinary reasons.

softy just said that people didn’t like Dannen because Dannen didn’t like DEI. Might have to side with Dannen on this one

What even is the point of signing contracts anymore
How can anyone get engaged with this when you don't know the players, coaches or other leaders of the team

Yeah, but do your fucking homework before you accept a job. Any AD who wants to be successful needs to navigate the whole EDI thing. You can hate it if you want, but it isn't going anywhere so be smart and figure it out.
The UW job is probably meant for a west coast person under the age of 50 who understands the landscape and is a football-first, second and third believer.

he replaced Jen, I liked him for that if nothing else.

I don’t see this going well. Another good/better hire will quiet my apprehension or concerns about how upper academia views this and responds.

I’m probably overthinking shit again. Either way I don’t care that much.
