VO2 max chart for those who don't care enough to go to get tested on a treadmill with the Bain mask.

And how to calculate it without getting a formal test done.
Understanding VO2 max | Parkview Health
Yella may have better sources, but all this talk about VO2 max motivated me to try to learn about it in 5 minutes or less. Looks like I fall under "Good" for my age range. Based on the methodology, it seems that the only way you can increase your VO2 max number is by reducing your resting heart rate (which is where the exercise comes in).
Funny enough, I've never actually done a VO2 max test in my life.
I just know based on wrecking fools on Le Peleton (my scores are usually in the top .1% of riders there) or beating (most) of the local White Wakanda bros on mt bike hill climbs that it very high.
Plus my resting pulse is stupid low.
I'm working on getting better and the strength piece though since this becomes critical. We lose so much muscle mass as we age.
At my peak, my resting heart rate was about 45. It’s now about 60ish and I’m far from my peak.
Too many Banquets!!

Sounds closer to HIV than diabeetus
seriously though 10-15 years undiagnosed? How the fuck is that possible? And had to be Type 1…
Nah it's type 2. 15 years was the estimate the opthalmologist gave me based on the damage to my retinas.
I was oblivious to many warning signs including a family history of type 2. Really dumb. My 30s were a dark time for personal health as I was wrapped up trying (failing) to be the greatest single dad ever.
When the weight loss thing was getting really bad I used to chuckle about the HIV tag I had at doogman because I was seriously wondering wtf was going on. It took a lot to get me to go to the doctor. Nowadays I see him so often we know each other's kid's names and occupations and he calls me for fishing tips.
If you couldn't tell from my posts I am T1 but was adult onset in my early 20s. I lost close to 50 lbs in a couple of months before being diagnosed because like you my body was eating its muscle for energy while I had super high glucose. I guess I am lucky I married young and my wife dragged my stubborn ass to the doctor. It took a few years for me to really figure everything out with meds and diet but I've been well controlled for 15+ years now.
I didn't realize T2 could hit that level of high blood sugar. JFC. Can you get the prescriptions you need to control? I was shocked at how few supplies my mom can get as an old lady T2 thru insurance. I get basically whatever I tell them to give me. Continuous Glucose Monitors are a game changer.

Yep I take a daily insulin shot and 4 horse pills of metformin. Don't need anything else as of yet. My BP is around 120/70 and all of my blood chemistry is good.
My Dr pushes the continuous glucose monitor every time I talk to him. I'm pretty stubborn and don't plan on trying it anytime soon.

Type 1 is insulin dependant. You'd be dead in just a few days without insulin. A bg of 600 will get you into ketoacidosis, which will make you drop lots of weight and will definitely kill you eventually.

I actually went vegan for 6 months in California due to my smoking hot assistant being vegan
Lot of fucking work to get protein when you can just grill a steak
Moderation in all things
I know that Al Michaels says he never eats vegetables
Chaffee has been pure carnivore for six years. An Australian researcher gave him a friendly challenge to do his blood work. When the results came back, the researcher said that if he randomly took blood samples of 100,000 people, Chaffee's results would be #1 without a doubt. So Chaffee's argument is that humans ate that way forever until roughly 8,000 years ago when farming took a prominent role, and then of course cancer and dementia suddenly appeared 100 years ago out of nowhere, right in alignment with the industrial revolution and processed foods.
Chaffee also points out situations like where you have Chinese parents who are 5'2" and eating tons of rice and noodles, and then they come to America and they have a son with a more meat-centric diet and the son grows to be 6'2".

A woman I know just went through a medical situation where she passed a kidney stone. I relayed to her what Chaffee talks about. That the body produces a certain amount of bile each day and awaits the consumption of fat to which the bile will be used. But when people, especially modern women, avoid eating fat at all costs, the bile sits stagnant in the gallbladder and after some time begins to crystalize. As it crystalizes it forms kidney stones, which then get passed quite painfully. My friend avoids eating fat like the plague and I think hearing this from me was a revelation that this could have been the root cause of her medical problem.

I too am stubborn but having that extra data and not having to test 5x a day is so incredibly valuable. My A1C was good before the CGM but with it and the extra info I was able to cut it to the low 6s. 1,400 data points per day is a lot better than 5 and really changes your behavior.

I thought he was T1 because I had never heard of a T2 reaching that level of blood glucose.

Bro. Why aren't you getting the Ascent protein?
I used to buy that Optimum. Not gonna say anything bad about it as it will get the gym bros gainz, but I think the Ascent tastes much better and it doesn't have artificial sweeteners in it, either.

my dad recommended it and he’s a 40 year health nut.

does Costco sell the other stuff? I’m open to new things.

so then question for my Protein powder guysm
Why? Do you not get enough in your regular diet, or is there something else you’re working towards?
I think I last tried that in high school while trying to gain weight (other than when it comes mixed in yogurt or granola bars).
