My coworkers brother was just deployed to Jordan with the idea that there will be boots on ground in Iran. I’m not really into that. Blockade the strait? Sure. Bomb the fuck out of their military and military infrastructure? Yeah, okay. This is looking like more forever war type shit. If the people rise up and overthrow the Mullah’s then I guess American lives lost for a tyrannical Middle East regime change would be an acceptable outcome. If they don’t rise up and take this opportunity then the war will get messy. Iran is fucking huge, it’ll take forever to root those guysms out. I can’t handle the ups and downs.
Have actual friends with family in Tehran and other cities. Their family members calling directly from Iran itself say the economy is dead already. People are essentially just sheltering in place with whatever supplies they have and can smuggle. People have been preparing for this eventuality though so the humanitarian side hasn't hit completely yet but it's coming.

Boots on the ground aren't required. Ready for it? Sure. Use them? That's not necessary now

Iran has a huge population and the ones that they care about keeping in line have been living with consistent electricity and running water and government handouts for decades. Let’s see what happens when they don’t have that. Even Capitol Hill would turn on Fergie in a couple of weeks if the government failed to deliver what they are accustomed to. Trump stole the timeline advantage from the Mullahs.
Getting mobilized to Jordan probably has a lot more to do with the stability of Jordan than boots in Iran.

Of the three attempts at a strawman, the first one is mostly spot on as it pertains to your new self-loathing friends. The second and third have no relevance. "Forever wars" is and always was a stupid term used by stupid people. They don't even really know what it means.
Ignore it. The military takes up a huge percentage of our budget. Nobody ever promised anyone that we? wouldn't use it.
