Bingo. Saw it yesterday with Meyer. He's not driven by the wins. It's the to his core last dying breathe hatred of losing that makes him (and all the great ones) have a singular focus of getting to his point A to point B and doing what ever it takes to make that happen.

Saban and Meyer wear it on their sleeves. Harbaugh and CP mask it well, but behind closed doors I bet it's a different animal.

This is a small point, but I think speaks to how CP is wired. He likes to play ping pong against all the recruits when they come visit. My guess is those kids think it's going to be a friendly little game. But as I understand it, when the game starts, Petersen flips his switch and his only focus and goal is to beat the piss out of the student athlete and win the game. It's that same mentality and drive he has when he's coaching football.

But to me the difference is how they are as leaders. Do you equate the hatred of losing as resulting in their great leadership? Saban and Meyer are great leaders and also hate losing. Does the hatred of losing drive the leadership? Or vice versa?

Interesting poast. I can probably buy in that there are thousands of great coaches out there. I also know a few dudes who have made it as coaches.

The hatred of losing drives everything. You either get on board or fuck off. The talent Saban and Meyer have ran off would be program changing to lesser programs/coaches.

Another example of Fleck. When he was hired at WMU he called all the current verbals and told them that if they wanted to play for the previous staff he had no interest in them. He only played the guys that bought in which resulted in most of their sitting while they won one game. He then went on to sign the highest rated recruiting class in MAC history and followed it up with an 8 win season. They sign an even better class leading into this year and sit at 12-0.

He won't even take a phone call until after their CCG from people trying to throw millions of dollars at him.

He isn't "the next big thing." He is already elite. Once the office matches the man he will be talked about with the big boys.
