DeSantis also didn't implement any of the highlighted items. DeSantis of all the large red states had the best record for protecting the people of his state looking at all the factors.

Was going to be my point as well. I don't care about how virtuous the current guy is to not abuse a bullshit law. The next person in DeSantis' position very may well choose to use the powers installed by DeSantis.

The pandemic and social unrest of the past 5 years or so has revealed that people in power will take every inch they can get if it's available to them.
