People like you and RoadDawg are hating on him because in your minds you feel like he didn't maximize his talents and because you'd kill to have had such an opportunity, it pisses you off.

I look at him and see a guy that got to live his dream of going to the UW, got a degree, got drafted in the NFL, got paid in the NFL, has a great family, has been smart enough with his money to be able to decide what he wants to do on his terms for the rest of his life instead of the terms of others, and has decided that he values his family and quality of life more than football.

If you told me that I was an idiot but was able to accomplish all of the above, I'd laugh my ass off at you trying to say that I was a failure, idiot, etc. Whatever.

I guarantee you that at least 81% of this board would have no problem being that much of an idiot.

I don't care about whether Locker maximized his talents. It makes no difference to me.

He wasn't good at UW and he was a bust in the NFL that retired once he wasn't guaranteed a starting job. I fail to see what is praiseworthy about that. If Mark Sanchez retired after playing in New York, I doubt you would praise him for walking away with his money and health.

I don't give a shit if Locker is a good guy or about his great family. I'm sure there are tons of former UW players that are good guys with nice families.

In 2007 Jack Lockner played three fantastic quarters of football against Oregon. He ended up losing in a blow out but three good quarters in Doog Legend territory!

The Titans drafted Lockner over JJ Watt. When you fuck up, make it legendary!

People that run from problem to problem and never stick anything out ... no problem giving those people shit.

People that sabotage their own career (see Russell, JaMarcus) ... no problem in that regard.

That's not the case with Locker at all. The smart money would have been him leaving after his junior year ... instead he stayed in school.

He could have easily sat on the sidelines for another couple of years and collected another $4-6M easily but holding a clipboard. He had the sack to say that that lifestyle wasn't for him anymore. Hard not to respect that.

Locker's had injuries to his shoulder (numerous times), his ankle, his hip, and his knee. I don't blame him at all for valuing quality of life over the next paycheck. If I was in his same situation, I would choose the same thing. If I had enough money to cover the rest of my life in the bank account, there's no question that I'd prioritize quality of life over making more money. What's the point?

If you've been around any number of people that have played sports in college or professionally, one of the common things you'll hear from many of them is that it changes from being a sport and for fun and instead turns into a job. The joy of playing starts to go away ... particularly if you are someone that is on the fringes.

I respect the people that know when it is time to move on. I wish I was better at recognizing that and then acting on it when I realize it. Too often I find myself in a position where I keep typing and typing and typing and typing I'm optimistic that something will change knowing that the odds of it changing are slim.

Yeah this. I don't get it. Nobody is breaking any new ground here. Any debate about Locker as a player was over a long time ago. He had enough talent to get picked 8th in spite of being a pretty shitty QB. He had a predictably lackluster NFL career. He's not known for being particularly bright ("I can't see anything!"..."Jake, pull your helmet up it's covering your eyes").

None of this shit is up for debate and it's all been beaten to death. Now he's done. Some want to compliment him because they're classy like that. Some don't give a fuck because they don't give a fuck (I'm in this category). I can understand either of those stances. I really can't understand the continuing need to bash him about things that were pretty well accepted long ago. He wasn't the savior. He's not a saint. He's not a genius. He's not a very good QB. Old news...
