In-State Players Thread

Some of the most twitchy, explosive guys I knew growing up were good wrestlers, but they all played other sports too and eventually dropped wrestling because the season coincided with hoops. Most of the wrestlers that stuck with it were oafs on the court, played football in the fall but very poorly, and took golf (poorly) if they did anything in the spring.

This. There’s an old saying about how good wrestling is for football, but the majority of wrestlers were horrible at football. They are not better fast twitch athletes than basketball players. You guys just like defending wrestling, but you know what I’m saying is true. The best athletes play hoops.
 
The best athletes are more likely to hoop because basketball is orders of magnitude more popular than wrestling.

That doesn’t mean that for any specific recruit that they are a worse athlete because they wrestle instead of ball, do you see why?

General assumption. Not playing hoops normally means sub par hand eye coordination. If you can’t catch, fuck off. Unless you’re Budda.

The best athletes that are coordinated play hoops because that’s just what they do. Of course it’s more popular.

Locally, Washington is a school he’s been watching for a long time on the football field.

“I’ve always like watching Washington,” said Williams. “I’ll be honest, an offer from them could be hard to pass up, just to be able to play in Seattle.”

Williams was at Washington on Saturday with a number of his teammates and in-state underclassmen.

“Washington’s Junior Day was actually really cool,” said Williams. “I felt like I was at home with all of the hospitality. Coach (Ikaika) Malloe gave me some tips when coming off the ball that I’ll be using next year and pretty much his main goal was if we could learn from him and perfect our own playing style. The locker room was lit with all the players too. I also love how they care about their athletes enough to have so many meetings with the players about academics.”

Says this kid goes to Lincoln but yeah, I think so. The Cuogs had a DL from Wilson that was picked in the 3rd round right around the same time as Trufant. He might have been younger.
