Husky Jacks open thread [2020]

I looked through and thought most of the weights looked good. It's a good sign that the changes have gotten small compared to last year where many guys had double digit gains.

I think our inside LBs would be right at 230 with BBK like mobility in a perfect world, but we can't seem to get there because UW doesnt recruit many Alabam, LSU or even USC level LB prospects. I'd take 210 and quick over 240 and plodding.

I like to think back to Reuben Foster at Bama... he was up to 240 early in his career and was underperforming. Then he dropped to 220 and played like an All American his senior year because he was flying all over the field

Yep. The thumper talk on here is stupid and dated. A lot of the best LB’s in recent years were not big, but fast. Devin White, Foster, Devin Bush, etc. Foster was great his senior year and was listed at 221.

Playing in the 220’s in college is fine. They bulk up a little bit for the NFL. If they are big and fast, great, but those guys are rare. We don’t really play a lot of run heavy teams either.

This was from December, but didn't watch until today. Taylor Rapp's video series from the Rams. This one is like a 7 minute recruiting video for UW and BFL.

And sitting out rose bowls. Dead to me.

I don’t hate Rapp as much as some of you, but the Rose Bowl will always bother me. It would have been a close game if he played. Those TD’s and a couple conversion were with McKinney directly in coverage.

McKinney sucks and got beat out by true freshmen the next year. We had a FCS caliber player playing in the Rose Bowl. In hindsight, Myles Bryant should have played safety and Molden at nickel. That would have also given us a better shot.

I know some of you think Ohio State let up, but that’s stupid. It happens, but they weren’t not trying. UW converted a bunch of 4th downs and had some big plays on defense.

Ohio State blows teams out all the time. Not really Meyer or their programs MO to let up. UW adjusted and played way better on defense. It wasn’t as close as the score indicated, but Ohio State did need to recover on onside kick to finish the game.

Bullshit. That embarrassing ass-kicking contest was over by halftime.

Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda. Kreist.

Except it wasn’t and they needed to recover an onside kick to finish the game. But still.. I’m sure that was because Ohio State wanted it to be a close game. Yes, we were getting our ass kicked at halftime. Two TD’s were on Rapp. If those are FG’s instead, it’s a different game. There were probably other plays too outside the TD’s where McKinney fucked us.

I didn’t say we would have won, but a few of those plays probably wouldn’t have been made if Rapp was playing.

By your logic, UW let up against Stanford the same year when we dominated most the game and were up 21-0 and they came back. Natural let up happens when a team is ahead sometimes, but to think Ohio State was just running the ball and eating clock is FS. Or that they were allowing 4th down conversions because they weren’t trying. It’s stupid.

Does that seriously say fucking radio? Do they know the tv and inter webs were invented? Wtf

Edit: I’m 37 and have some nostalgia but this feels like another swing and a miss by the marketing team. I need old AF’s to weigh in here.

If it’s radio only, it’s a huge miss. How about promoting great games from the 80’s and 90’s and putting them online for the younger generation. You might be able to get a few new young fans that way or make casual fans more interested and wanting to buy some tickets and gear for next year.

Nobody, even old folks are listening to replays on radio. Fire up the Rondeau radio broadcasts along with video and out that shit online.

I'm 40 and I drive an hour a day to my job at the grocery store. I may check out a 60 minute replay instead of listening to a book on occasion. Something different to break up my week. Hopefully this is just the beginning of trying to connect the past with the present. Taking advantage of every social media outlet is a must on the front. I'm not holding out hope for that though.
