Herbie on FSU’s lunatic fringe

who was that writer that called us? members of the lunatic fringe and then got busted for plagiarism?

Back in the day, Art Thiel referred to Husky Half Brains as unemployed losers in their pajamas living in their mom's basement writing angry stuff about Tyrone, Emmert and Turner

And where is Art today?

That's what I thought

I assume he lives in a cave in the English countryside, eating herds of livestock, and terrifying local children.

Sounds about right.

here's the problem with Herbie's analogy: it's not analogous.

FSU had a loss, as did Miami and Washington. Oklahoma was the only undefeated team.

Washington beat Miami and Miami beat Florida State. That was a different animal. If any of those teams had been undefeated and been leapfrogged by one of the others, there would have been a huge fucking stink. It is often the case that there are teams that are playing well at year's end but who have a loss which holds them back. Using this group of teams to make the point, both Miami and Washington would have been shitty draws to play against in a bowl in 1990, but each team had two losses, so that was that. Nobody whined. Either team would likely have beaten G Tech, but Tech had no losses. Again, nobody whined. You can't drop 2 and complain later. In 2000, three teams had a loss, and they picked the worst one to play OU. Totally different scenario. Everybody knows Bama is hot and might run away with the whole thing. That's not a revelation.
