Last weekend wasn't 2022 Liberty (Henderson, Nv.) wide receiver Germie Bernard's first time on Washington's campus. However, it still allowed him to see what it was like to be part of the Husky family and the commit said it just continued to reinforce the fact that he made the right decision.
"I'd been up there before and I already knew that I made the right choice," Bernard told Dawgman.com. "Saturday was a busy day, but it was also my dad's birthday, so when we were there and came up to meet with the coaches, they were all waiting there and wished him a happy birthday. It was a little thing, but it just showed me that they will not only take care of me, but also my family. We're a family and that's a big reason why I chose Washington."
Bernard was scheduled to take part in the Rising Stars camp, but instead, he spent time touring the facilities and doing a little recruiting of his own.
"Coach (Junior) Adams spent time with me on Friday and Saturday," Bernard noted. "We got the chance to sit down and watch cut-ups of my film and what I can work on this offseason. It was good feedback and he said, if I can get those funadamentals down, I can be ready to go when I get there in January."
Without a junior season, Bernard has been hyper-focused on his senior season.
"In some ways, it is surreal that my senior season is coming up, but I also always knew it was coming up, so it isn't a surprise," Bernard said. "It's been good working out with my team. We start two-a-days on July 6th and then our first game is the second week of August. It's exciting. We have a good team, some really talented guys. We all took the long layoff as a chance to get better and we had to get creative on how we grew together as a team because we couldn't practice together.
"I think this team has a chance to win another state title. We did that before and I think we can do it again. I'm excited by what we have going. Some of our guys are really underrated and I think that is going to help us."
Bernard expects to take his official visit to Montlake at some point in December and, as noted earlier, he plans to enroll at Washington in January.
He is rated as the number 29 wide receiver in the country and is a member of the Top247. He currently holds a rating of 0.9190 in the industry-generated 247Composite.
