Fisch is the 9th highest paid coach in the Big 10. Pick the record apart, I have the screenshots I need. Option plays to the short end of the boundary, notwitwstanding, he's 8-3 with a talented young roster. This is anOL EVEN Race Bannon is coming to love, he just hasn't posted it yet. The team is far better than a year ago. The DC is a major bump up. I was Pro Deboner before anyone and said pay the man early. Jen Cohens raise brought him to the upward part of the bottom of the PAC12. What a joke. When i heard what they were offering him mid season 2023, I knew he was gone and said so. Show Washington is serious about football. Pay Fisch. If he loses, fire his ass and pay the buyout. I miss talking shit on opponents message boreds. The #script is to pocket the buyout money (solves the budget issue) and pay low-end money for a G5 coach that is an "up and comer" while hoping that there is enough NIL support to cover any gaps with the G5 coach under the logic that it doesn't matter what connections that the coach has in recruiting … it matters more to have the money to spend to attract the talent/roster and if the coach is decent with X's and O's then all the better
Of you have this alternate reality …
A G5 coach has no idea what it takes to win at the Big10 level and doesn't have the wherewithal to rebuild a roster that gets decimated with a coach leaving leading to the existing roster getting diluted by the portal and losing the balance of a very highly regarded recruiting class … this coach spends the next 2-4 years trying to get their head above water and can't even approach a level that many of you are bitching about under Fisch
While that is going on you have an AD that is still looking for ANY job that isn't Washington … he's not committed here (arguably a bigger fundamental problem based on history) and will bolt before the implications of the G5 hire becomes a reality that he has to deal with
Fisch may not be here long-term (he isn't)
We can debate on whether he's performed to expectations based on what he took over (messy)
The talent that he's bringing into this roster is moving in the right direction … recruiting is approaching CP levels on the high-end
But everybody is fooling themselves if they think now is the time to start over … not only will we likely go back 2 years but we'd also likely be in a spot where it takes longer to get back to this point (recruiting will likely not be as strong)
The rub of all of this is that this likely isn't a situation that we can just throw money at the problem and solve

If a coach wins, he gets paid. So #thescriot you speak of is malarkey. If we saved on a coach and he won a bunch of games, he’s going to need to be paid or he goes somewhere that will pay him.
I don’t want Fisch to leave either, but most of your post is nonsense. Not all G5 coaches would have no idea how to win in the Big 10. Indiana has a guy right now doing exactly that. We went to the natty a few years ago with one.
The G5 coaches have coached as assistant for all types of schools, have friends in the coaching world that do, etc. There is no reason they can’t get up to speed quickly.

If Fisch beats Oregon he is going to gain steam for a job like Florida.

I understand the 2nd half of his post. Your position poses more risk at this particular time imho.
Fish is all UW this year. Even if he beats Oregon, which he won’t, the Florida AD can’t sell a 31-33 or a 32-32 head coach that’s never coached real ball (SEC football) outside of being a GA. When Strickland whiffs on Kiffin he will turn to Summrall or maybe circle back on Goelish who still hasn’t signed up for Arkansas yet. Those two are a much easier sell than Fish, hell, Goelish beat Florida in the Swamp this season.

#TheScript says that we hire a G5 coach to save on upfront money … then you get into a position like you did with KDB where you're having to make material raises every year and then get in a spot where you're trying to figure out how much helium to put under those contracts versus somebody else deciding that they are going to a different level. Compare that to somebody like a Petersen where you know he's at the top end of the profession and you pay accordingly because they are established.
My point on a G5 to B10 leap is more reflective of how much CFB as a whole is changing and continues to change where the separation is growing wider by the year. Perhaps I'm wrong there … but I would feel a lot more comfortable with someone leading a program that knows what it takes to compete at the top end of CFB and isn't learning on the fly.
When you think of everything that goes into running a big time program now in terms of the General Manager tied into player evaluation and recruiting, all of the support staff, etc. … is this something that someone coming from a G5 level is going to have a good feel of in terms of magnitude or people? Or if you look at someone like Eck … when you look at the resume there's literally nothing on it that is tied to modern power conference football. Could he do the job? Sure. Could he also find himself over the head and swimming up a heavy current as he adjusts? Also sure.
Big picture I don't feel like UW can afford to make a bad hire and be in a position where their roster gets gutted yet again. I don't think you can make a hire where in 2-3 years you are looking to hire another coach because you're not putting the next coach in a position to succeed. I don't want to go back to the 00s … there's risk that that is on the table if we do this wrong.
