Hijacking this thread, why don't more teams hire one great recruiter and put him solely on recruiting and no coaching? You hear about great recruiters who suck at coaching i.e. Adrian Klemm, why not give them some bullshit position and use them as your hired gun? Are there no real bullshit jobs on a staff?
A few points:
1. Nobody aspires to be a recruiting specialist. They recruit as part of their jobs as coaches but they want to be known as coaches, paid as coaches, and have the career trajectory of successful coaches.
2. Part of what makes coaches successful as recruiters is selling kids on playing for them personally. Tosh wouldn't be nearly as effective as a mere recruiter who wasn't involved on the field.
3. There is such a thing as recruiti g coordinator you just rarely hear of them because it isn't a prestigious position (see points #1 and #2.)
