This is a good point. One thing to remember. At this time last year, the following guys were in the "no chance" or "not on radar" zone:
Josh Calvert
Troy Fautanu
Tuitele (all Bama or SC)
McDuffie (all Stanford)
Liatu Latu (SC)
Puka (this is around when he committed to SC)
Other guys we ended up getting were considered leans elsewhere
There will be plenty of guys on our final commit list that we figure are headed elsewhere or we haven't really considered yet.
The problem isn't that the kids we are going to be adding to the list are underwhelming. The problem is that there are too many we have already taken who are underwhelming. It's a numbers game.
Dawg, we have 5 commits. We are ranked #50 currently and ZERO of the teams above us have 5 or less commits, including Furd. We basically don't even have a class yet, relative to others. 3 of our current commits I'm pretty sure I would take any year. The Viking, The Native, and The Italian are all excellent recruits. Redman is big time and fight me about Racanelli and Gaard. Small schools and criminally underrated. Sunday and Garbers are TBD, but I'm bullish. Garbers is hardly an issue. It was always going to be tough to get a big name QB between Eason and Huard with Sirmon and I guess Haener in the wings. A 4* #11 PRO QB who's climbing up the ranks ain't half bad for a dude who will likely never play. He was necessary. That leaves Sunday as the only question mark in my mind, and I'm doubling down. Dude is Marshawn-esque. Sunday as a #2 RB to Adams is a solid RB haul. Long story long, I am not concerned about the current commits. We only have 5 and I love them mostly. We have approximately 17 dudes left to go. Rose Garden, Adams, and Hatchett are in the bag, with likely others that we don't know about. As @bananasnblondes said, we got a lot of commits from dudes we thought we weren't in on at this time last year. Pete works in mysterious ways.
LIPO doog Ern had to make an appearance. I'll take my leave now.
