Had to tell a parent that asked “why is _______ not playing a lot?” I told her “who is he going to play over”? She froze. I said “he’s barely nine. He’s not getting over any of the 5 ten year olds in front of him. Playing him at TE was to make him happy and probably mostly you.” Blank stare.
I used to say that all the time when parents would complain that their kid wasn't playing shortstop or pitcher all the time as a 6 year old. Who do you think he should be playing over. Who should I sit that isn't as good as him in order to get him that playing time.
The crazy ones are actually pretty meh unfortunately
This is exactly why I hate coaching my kids’ teams. Two summers ago, I had a crazy white trash grandma bitch me out before the final game about why her grandson hadn’t played pitcher. Mind you, it was fucking rec ball coach pitch for 6-7 year olds, and he was the best player on the team, so he played in the infield more than any other kid. I kept a scorebook so I could track where each kid played each game to try to keep things fair. When I got home that night, I went through my scorebook, found the game where her grandson had played pitcher, and texted it to her. She responded by saying she was going to call the city, report I was harassing her, and make sure I never coached again. I fucking hate people.
My D played on a well known, eastside premier team. She started late but the kid was crazy athletic and had size. In the beginning, there were kids who'd been playing at that level since U10 and were super fundamentally sound and knew the game way better than my D. Serious kids. Some of those kids stopped growing, and a subset of that group, and some who continued growing, didn't have any twitch. That is a problem in that game. Go play softball or something.

Parents suck. The ones that gave me the most trouble were the parents of left handed kids. Sure, the lefties can play the left side of the infield when they're fucking 6 years old. Only a retard keeps putting a lefty at SS once you're at the point where kids are starting to get serious and the booger eaters quit. Lefties play 1b or outfield, period. Any real baseball parent knows this and explains it to their little buttercup. Faggy parents, as most of them are, wait by the coach's car after the game and force him to explain it over and over...and still never get it.
it's hard for some people to accept the math that they were a mediocre athlete, their spouse was a mediocre athlete, and, surprise, junior is a mediocre athlete.
