When I first moved to LA in the late 1980s the homeless population were said to be out of work aerospace workers. That excuse was still in use until the mid to late 1990s when it became a combination of unemployed aerospace workers, people displaced by the LA Riots and the 1994 Earthquake. I shit you not, leftist would tell me with a straight face that these were the people, along with Iraq war vets who made up the homeless population.
