The Yacht Rock trend running right now is worse than disco.
I'm pretty sure that people who claim to like "Yacht Rock" as a genre couldn't tell you who The Doobie Brothers are. They just listen to shitty Spotify playlists and have convinced themselves that Yacht Rock is actually a real musical genre.
Case in point, from the same guy in the OP video.
Anytime something hit the mainstream it degrades into bullshit. Iron law. From hippies on breakfast cereal commercials in the 60s to Ice Cube selling something in the 90s
It's an invented genre but as the Max show reminded us all - there was a lot of talent and it was up against the Disco juggernaut and plotted a middle ground between rock and schlock

Christ. Beato is getting his panties in a wad over nothing. The term "yacht rock" isn't meant to describe a genre in the same way that one would use to describe, say, heavy metal, blues rock or cuntry rock. It's more about the "vibe" of what kind of music people in Newport Beach or Marina Del Ray would have been listening to on their yachts in the late 70s.
I've forgotten more about DJ'ing on sailboats than Beato will ever know.
Disco's influence on rock was a wonderful thing.
