The head makes an effective silencer. When I was a kid, one of our neighbors blew his own head off with a shotgun in his apartment, and his body wasn't found for several days. More recently, when my cousin's husband blew his head off in his son's bedroom during a SWAT standoff after murdering my aunt and uncle, the SWAT outside didn't know until they sent in a flashbang robot with a camera.
