4. Chris Petersen, Washington
Washington is a program on the rise with Petersen at the helm. The Huskies are 22-5 over the last two years, including a 12-win season and a trip to the CFB Playoff in 2016. Washington finished 10-3 last year, which gave the program its first back-to-back seasons of double-digit victories since 1990-91. Petersen is 37-17 since taking over in Seattle and has lost only three Pac-12 games over the last two years. Prior to taking over at Washington, Petersen went 92-12 at Boise State from 2006-13. During that span, the Broncos played in two BCS bowls and finished No. 4 nationally in 2009.
Petersen turned down the Texas job when they fired Charlie Strong. Every team in the conference except for maybe Stanford would take him over their current head coach, especially Oregon. I love the constant Petersen hate from quooks though. They love to point back to their glory days when Oregon was winning big games to try to downgrade Petersen yet the coach who led them to those victories would rather be at UCLA than Oregon.

While the main premise of the article is true. The nobody else would have came!!!! Is idiotic. The PAC 12 just got a perceived windfall and even a school like WSU could pay above market value at the time. He has sucked in Apple Cups and bowl games for sure. But no one else could have did better sans Pete. His political takes won’t hurt him with winning Seasons. But could if they don’t make Bowl games for a couple Season. But his buyout is impossible and so it really doesn’t matter unless there’s a shed involved.

Agree/disagree. It's not a destination job for the average coach. Every school is someones destination, and Petersen didn't want to end his career outside the PnW. Washington got lucky.
But he is a top 5 or 10 coach. A lot of programs would love to have him. Second half against PennState is all Petersen. He knows what he's doing. Probably needs a little more tolerance with the non- OKG shit, but the guy can coach. Penn State was dominating Washington and they get blown out by digits of it weren't for Petersen.
Washington was dead and buried and, weak conference or not, makes the playoffs and had a respectable showing against a world beater team. That's not because UW has iron laws or any of that shit that doogs like to believe to make themselves feel good. It's because they landed Petersen. Period.
Would I take him over Saban or Meyer? No. Over a lot of other coaches? Fuck, the damage that guy could do at a place like Miami makes me wet.
Washington got lucky, but there you have it.
