But there has to be a better deal than Russia keeping what they stole when they invaded, Ukraine giving up a ton of their resources, and another “ceasefire” that Putin will ignore in 3 years being put in place.

My take is that the US having a large vested interest in Ukraine with shared mineral rights is a big deterrent for Putin if he has any ideas on another invasion. It’s not raiding Ukraine, it’s a geopolitical position that increases our relationship of Ukraine and it being a “free” country with an elected President.
We wouldn’t even need a military base in Ukraine.
