Why didn't Belichick take an NFL job?

Based on nothing but first impressions and instinct, I am not enthusiastic about this hire. The last time we did this the guy's name was Ed Donatell. (Or Ed Donatelli, as @iDawg referred to him in podcasts.)
I'm definitely Agnostic on the issue of corching. IMO, it is better than even-money that he will perform well as a gameday coach - which will, in theory, be a win for UW. It's the rest of the story that I have issue with.

I don’t disagree but Fische »»»»»»»»» Ty Willy. I like Fische. He seems genuine and highly competent. Son of Bill will not be operating in a vacuum. I do think most of this staff will land in the NFL, many following Fische to wherever he lands. Dannen deserves a lot of credit for being ready for the DeFauxer situation, I think it’s safe to assume he has already updated plan B so he’s ready again at any time.
I, like others in here, finally feel like we’re? in good shape where it really matters. There is an understanding of the importance of fielding a national football brand at the highest levels and the support is there. Feels kinda weird. James had Lude, but that was about it, the upper campus was jealous of him rather than supportive. Owens had a lot of power in his own right, but I’m not sure the funding spigot was as open as it is now. More recently, I now suspect Peterman had more support than most of us are aware of, he just burned out. Anyway, on the field performance has to be there for us? to say the Fisching experiment panned out, but for now it feels great to be a Washington Husky.

All the chatter I hear is that Mullet Belichick is a retard savant when it comes to calling plays, but that he's unable to command the respect needed to truly lead an NFL locker room.
In that sense he's a phenomenal hire. Guys who are the primary play caller of an NFL franchise for four years do not often go down to the college game. Sounds like Steve needs to work on his executive skills, and has the perfect opportunity to do so with younger college kids before he heads back to the NFL. Sounds like a win-win for all parties.

Fish seems to have assembled a good staff of coaches that evaluate talent and can coach it. I mean, all he could afford at Arizona was Johnny Nansen and he got the best version of that guy I’ve ever seen. That’s a good feather in your cap as a head coach. He was given a blank check by UW to find an upgrade over Nansen. He picked SB. At this point, If he thinks Mongo can be a good college play caller/teacher I’m certainly going to give him the benefit of the doubt.
You should expect to lose assistants if you make good hires. Grubb seemed to be the only guy anyone wanted off DeBoer

With everything that has transpired the last few weeks, and Dannen being relatively new fish in the UW pond, he and the AD with whatever help they are getting outside have done a helluva job so far. I went from fuck you Dedoor to not caring about that anymore. Fisch seems to be making the hires he needs to, the pay to play game is here and he is putting the best available staff of guys with next level talent to offer recruits and transfers the easiest way to the league.
I have no idea how this staff will play out long term, I'm assuming these mercenary coaches are using this opportunity to pad their resume for bigger opportunities elsewhere(nfl) however, if UW could use these guys to get the program to the ultimate big boy status then a homerun hire isn't as critical, as UW will recruit itself and the bags will take care of the rest...

Fisch expects everyone to recruit, but the question will be how much recruiting.
I said a couple weeks ago that the longer this goes, the closer we are to hiring the next Ed Donatell.

regardless, all coaching hires suck until they dont.
As long as the other defensive coaches are maniacal in their efforts on the trail, (on the trail, that’s what I like to call recruiting, on the trail.) Mongo can sit back and call plays with his beautiful mind.
In terms of earning respect as a leader - let alone an NFL locker room - this level of honestly and humility are a great start.

Why didn’t he take an NFL job? I’d assume because no one offered him one calling plays. The league is probably rightfully skeptical how much of his success was his and how much was daddy’s. Now he gets to go prove it.
The Donatell comp feels really lazy to me. Donatell had 25+ years of coaching under him and was in his 50s when Ty hired him to save his sinking ship. The UW experience was obviously terrible but he has had multiple NFL DC stops since his time here. He clearly wasn’t the problem with that 2008 team.
Bellichick might crash and burn but if he does it will be for very different reasons that ED (ILTCEDEDTWILTD) did. He’s young, hungry, a little eccentric and with real upside. You knew what you were getting with Donatell which wasn’t enough given the disaster in charge. You don’t know what you’re getting with Bellichick. It’s a dice roll but I like the aggressive move. Jedd has worked with Bellichick and knows what his work ethic and football mind are like beyond interviews and references.
Its the kind of risk I want a HC to take.
