Why can’t Washington get into Maryland and Rutger’s conference?

If we’re considered by the Big Ten to be less valuable than Maryland and Rutgers, then how low down must we be on the Big Ten expansion list?
When the ACC Grant of Rights ends in 2036, will we be behind Boston College, Duke, Syracuse, Georgia Tech, UVA and God knows who else on the Big 10 expansion list?

Those schools joined in 2014. Nobody in the PAC was thinking about anything close to that level of realignment back then. The landscape is different now. More eyes in those markets, too, to watch Big 10 content (doesn't just have to be watching the home team).

The state of Washington has more people than Maryland. Washington has 10 US representatives, Maryland has 8 US representatives. Even NJ only 3 more representatives than Washington. (And lol if you think the networks are seriously willing to credit Rutgers with NYC.)

Look at the entire region around those areas. There are twice as many people on the East Coast. JFC.

@Sandra6 We all know that its abundantly clear for the last 30 years that the big 10 is full of dead teams [other conferences as well] that were included during the middle ages of football league formations that would never be invited today. We all know that the day is coming where conferences will dissolve as we know them now in favor of teams that matter and teams that don't. The lawsuits on the way to dissolving the current array will be a real issue.
The answer most likely will amount to top teams leaving existing conferences to join a new super conference that does not have those issues, leaving the existing conferences intact to avoid kicking the losers out and with no recourse to smaller team franchises that will then own 100% of nothing. TV will have to drive it because they are the ones that will pay for the superconference, and the issues of killing the existing array.

In another year or two they will re-re-reexamine the CFB landscape and perhaps make another.
As always the first step of each cycle will be to approach Notre Dame, again. They have the power and can do things on their own terms. They can act on their own timeline.
Maybe UW doesn't get an invite next round either. Maybe UW makes a move to another conf. Neither precludes UW getting an invite later. This shit ain't over by a longshot.
The only important thing is to be at the table when/if there comes a time when major powers break away. Perhaps the tOSUs and Bamas of the world get tired of sharing $$$$$ with Maryland and Vandy. EWIWBI.

fun with maps. Piscataway and College Park are 3.5 hours from College Station. That is virtually an hour faster than UW's closest geographical rivals, OSU and WSU. Did they make as much geographical sense as say WVU or Shitt (Pitt), no but lets not act like anything east of Chicago, or really Madison, are that far from one another. I think the stat is Pittsburgh is within 500 miles of 80% of the countries population, not to mention the lions share of Canada's population.
Rutgers and Maryland were added to the Big Ten in 2014. It’s not like that were charter members in 1895 or something.
Keep in mind that by the time Rutgers had been added to the Big Ten, they had already been rejected by the ACC in favor of every other charter member of the Big East football conference except for West Virginia (not an academic fit) and Temple. (Who was so bad the Big East kicked them out.) If the Big Ten invites an ACC reject like Rutgers but doesn’t invite us, then that means that they’ll end up preferring just about every ACC member over Washington in 2036.

Still phrasing it like they chose them over UW. 2014 is nearly a decade ago. It was a different world and the conference was looking to expand. Was UW looking to move then or is your complaint that *we can't retroactively take Rugers' or Maryland's spot?
They let in a couple of homeless teams to fill in #s. It isn't a relevant comparison to what's going on now
