I actually like getting guys at the deadline to improve the roster. It also gives enough time to see if the young guys are major league ready and injuries.Ms settled on rolling out the same starting five. No Castillo trade. No Skubal.
It sounds like the priorities are two relief pitchers, resigning Planko or replacing him with someone like Donovan or Lowe. I don't think they'll add two position players each making any kind of money.
Any other deals will be fringe stuff. They'll probably move either Raley or Canzone for prospects or package one in a deal.
Boring stuff
I'm not a fan of big free agent spending. The contracts for the expensive guys never age well. Most of the time they look like shit to me from the start.I actually like getting guys at the deadline to improve the roster. Free agency is a tough game and if ownership doesn’t want to spend, there isn’t much you can do. You have to overspend to get anyone good and half of the guys are just about washed up by the time they enter free agency.
Yeah, the new guy’s stats aren’t great, but I think there is probably something there with him. He throws hard and doesn’t walk guys and the Mariners do a good job with their pitching and scouting. A high leverage lefty is more valuable than a back up catcher and utility guy.I'm not a fan of big free agent spending. The contracts for the expensive guys never age well. It's been the refusal to add guy's through trade who would only increase the payroll incrementally...$5 mill or maybe $10...that i stay oissed about.
This was a good move with Ford. The guy theyre getting is pretty nasty. They get him through 2029 too.
