Whitlock: "Buffalo Bills need to offer $25 million a year to Cignetti"

I'd like to see someone try, just to see how much lettuce Cuban might pull out of his wallet.

I'm so jealous of Indiana with Cig.
He's just what I love in a football coach, particularly with his demeanor.

The total opposite of overly rah rah "acts like a teenager" types such as Lanning.

Why in the fuck would he leave Indiana? He just became their favorite son from now until the end of time. He is filling up Brinks trucks all the while.

He has it figured out too, that's the other thing. He just works his process.

I am sure they are making the cast for his statue as we speak. The foundry bellows are being prepared.

Had Michael Jackson not noodled all the kids, it would be a competition for most beloved person in Indiana history. But game, set, match now.

This could have been DeBoner at UW.

Someday he'll be old and whittling wood in a rocking chair and he'll mutter out that he made a mistake at the end of 2023.

College coaches don't always do well in the NFL. Cuban must be funding Indiana. They were a laughing stock for the better part of 30 years.
Nah, Cignetti is one of the best coaching jobs ever seen in college football. The vast majority of the key players on Indiana were transfers from James Madison who must have cost almost nothing and more guys who were already on the Indiana roster than you would think. Mendoza was a nice expensive piece for sure but not much else needed Cuban money.

I think Indiana was helped by going against a bunch of teams that have select sports style culture now. Still great

I would totally understand Cignetti or any college coach going to the NFL. In the NFL, the job is easier, and the pay is great.

I don’t see him leaving Indiana for Buffalo (yuck), but to say there would be no rationale reason or draw is crazy.

There might be less responsibility in the NFL, but it’s definitely not easier to win there. Cig is a really good coach and he has money behind him at Indiana. He’s got a great set up for continued success.

Buffalo coach made the playoffs 8 years in a row and got fired. And he was among the longest tenured

Harbaugh was longest. Got fired. 2012 was a long time ago

Cigs will retire at IU

He’s from Pittsburgh. They have an opening. His whole extended family still lives there. He’s 64, if he’s ever been curious, now would be the time. Top NFL coaches make a mint and he could ask top dollar. Ride off into the sunset as a D1 lightning strike and take a job that allows for more freedom in your life. 64 isn’t old but it sure isn’t young and he looks like he’s been working hard and drinking beer for a long time. Steelers are also a first class, A1 organization. That would be the job to leave Indiana for, none of the others really rate.

That's a rebuild job. He seems like a guy who prefers winning. It's also much easier to get a QB in college vs the pros.
