Phil offered Magic stock because Nike couldn't match the paltry 100 grand or so Converse offered. All Magic wanted was more than Larry
The stock offer is worth billions today of course..
What Nike did with Tiger was more outside the box. Basketball players were proven.
Even other golfers thought 100 million was crazy for Tiger. Maybe jealous too
And they gave him his own division. It worked

Also nobody was wearing basketball shoes daily until Jordan. Saying it was proven is a little misleading. People wore tennis shoes more than basketball.

Imagine being from the PNW and not being a communist and hating with the heat of a thousand suns one of the most successful, innovative and ground-breaking companies to organically grow out of our soil because of your favorite college football team. Yeah, that's super clear thinking. I mean, Boeing, Microsoft, UPS … I like that they're here and were born here. And from what little inside baseball I get, they've always treated UW very well in their dealings.

If you don't think Nike's campaign played a part in his becoming the gargantuan institution he and his brand became you need to touch some grass my man. There had never been anything like it in terms of a literal global shift in market awareness in sport. Compare and contrast Kobe Bryant and Reebok. What was that tag line? Oh yeah, nobody ever knew it.

Oregon's gotta be one of the only, if not the only school where your fan card or diploma can't be given to you until you shamelessly shill for a sports apparel company and a pro sports owner. Also you have to dance around like a complete dipshit to a cringe song and movie.
Oregon gets 100% of the credit. Stanford Business School needs to get on their level.

I don't actually think Nike had nothing to do with the Jordan stuff. I do like goading grown men into simping about corporations though. I made fun of Apple people to their faces constantly when that was more of a thing. Same with people who try to do moral high ground consumer shit and eco shit but who don't like on a commune and aren't minimalists.
I also think Jordan's agent had a lot to do with shit that people don't realize and probably credit others for. I will say for Nike a greatest of all-time logo. That's true.
I don't give one iota of a fuck or pride that Microsoft or god damn Boeing or whatever is from here so especially don't for an apparel company from Oregon. I think it's cool Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix are from here and John Stockton and Budda Baker and stuff like that though.
