I hate Helfrich more than most, but he did win a Rose Bowl. Albeit with arguably the greatest Pac 12 quarterback of that decade and the rest of Chip's players.

Then won a rose bowl with Chips players.
Then lost an Alamo Bowl with a 50/50 split
Then went 4-8 with his own guys and got fired.
Willie was here 1 year and then left to go get fired at FSU.
Lanning won 10 games and a Holiday Bowl with Cristobal’s players, except the offensive backfield.
So far Lanning trails Helfrich, who is tied with Deboer, but ahead of Taggart and Cristobol on the 1 year career arc.

Helfrich and Deboer both won 11 games in year 1 and they both beat Texas in the Alamo Bowl.
Lanning and Cristobal both won 10 games in year 1. Lanning won the Holiday and Cristobal won the Red Box
Lanning also ahead of Taggart in year 1, obviously.

I don’t think there’s any chance that Deboer shits the bed like Helfrich but this is where we are after 1 year. Both coaches will get 24 months with another guy’s QB. Helfrich won an Alamo, a Rose, and played for a national championship.
Let’s see what Deboer does with one more year of Penix and let’s see what Lanning does in year 2 with Bo.
