Yeah, that game sucked, but thankfully it was what Oregon needed to get ride of slingblade. Its much better to have a bad year than to have a bad decade, if you know what I mean. So it was a win/win for both teams.

People forget that getting rid of Slingblade isn't what saved Oregon from a bad decade.
Florida State @PatHadenFS'ing Willie Taggart is what saved Oregon.
People forget that.

Ehh, quooks say that but most likely it was when they got run over by Oregon State.
Keep in mind, it wasn't just the losses that doomed Helfrich. It was also his uninspired recruiting efforts. Losing Tua, when he basically begged to commit there, and then losing Molden ( A legacy recruit) it was the beginning of the end for him.

Unfortunately there was still more to it. Players weren’t being held accountable, skipping the weight room. The players really had no respect for slingblade, and those close to the program new it. The uw game gave the administration the backbone they needed to make a change. The Oregon St game just made it clear to the fans.

Oh ffs, anyone with half a brain knew the year before when they gave up 500 fucking points.

What people really forget is that William Taggart’s recruiting class just won the Rose Bowel.
70-21 ended the Blade. That’s when the quook army finally realized that there were 10 of us who were right all along.

Washington created the buyout discussion, and OSU ended the discussion before it even got started.
Had Oregon lost close to UW, and still lost to OSU like they did, there's a good chance he would have gotten one more year. Getting bomb by UW eliminated any cushion he had, as his odds were greater than 50% he was getting fired regardless of the OSU game. But I agree the OSU took the over 50% chance and raised it to 100%.
