I thought that being liberal meant having values that cared about individual freedom and liberty. I thought being liberal meant we cared about governments and corporations having too much power. I thought it meant giving a voice to the voiceless, taking unpopular stances and even siding with those who you hated if their rights were being trampled.

Today apparently this is what it means:

They just became conservatives. At best "conservative" dems were private and public union shills and were never classical liberals. The word "liberal" just got co-opted by leftard fascists. It worked so well, that leftards have pretty much abandoned the term due to its strong negative reaction with voters and are now "progressives". Of course asking a progressive about why their ideas are all fascistic is like asking the slobberer to define black.

A progressive is a Marxist. I guess my take on a classical liberal is someone who had issues with governments imposing their wills upon people. I would say these people questioned authority in general. Most of them believed people were free to live their lives as they chose. However, over time, many of these people stopped questioning the expanse and largesse of government. I'm sure I've missed additional characteristics but I'd like someone to define a conservative.
