The real question I would have is what the offense would look like. Would Peterman/Smith lean on the defense and give Gaskin 30+ carries and only throw when needed? I doubt it.
If it leads to a win, I'm all for it.

Gaskin averaged 27 carries a game the last 3 games. They leaned on him against WSU in the second half, even after his first half #s weren't good. That was a big change from the ASU game. He had 26 carries against Southern Miss and they leaned on him late even though Southern Miss' pass defense was horrid.
There were two reasons they didn't lean on Gaskin earlier in the season. He was a true freshman very early in his career and although UW had many close losses, they were behind by a lot in the middle of many games. Cal- down 27-7 early in 3rd quarter, Oregon down 23-6 late in the 3rd, Utah down 15 late in 2nd, then 11 early in 3rd q. Also DW was effective in the Cal and Utah games early until critical turnovers and dropped passes.
UW ran 55% of the time to Oregon's 62% and Stanford's 66%. Most of the difference (but not all) is due to UW being behind rather than philosophy. In the WSU, Arizona, Southern Miss games UW's run-pass was skewed to the run due to being ahead.
The only game they really fucked up on with regards to not enough run was ASU. Can also include Cal in the first half but field position dictated a few bizarre drives. On one they went for a deep shot, was picked. On another Lenius got a holding penalty making it like 2nd and 25, requiring pass.
In reality, Pete's philosophy is not as pass happy as most here assume but only marginally so. It will never be smash mouth nor will it ever seem like its run heavy due to the motions and gadget shit. But they will lean on Gaskin when they have to, as shown at the end of the season.

I'm not worried about Gaskin getting his carries. He going to have a big year.
I want to see Petersen win a game by doing what's necessary vs what he would ideally do. It's something we haven't seen these first two years. That's where a lot of frustration about his scheme and play calling comes from.
When Connor Cook was hurt, Michigan State didn't throw the ball unless necessary and beat Ohio State on the road. Alabama gave Henry the ball 40-45 times when they needed to. There were games Stanford only threw 10-15 while Hogan (a future pro) was their QB.
I've got one foot on board, I like the general development, but I also don't forget the fuckery we have seen the past two years. The Apple Cup win doesn't cut it.
