What I'd like to do

Since I’m not high on Williams anyway, too many limitations, I wanted Longstreet, some cash and a measure of dignity ~ Washington isn’t going anywhere next season, continue to build with better players. I get that the coaches, university, BIG10 wanted to quash this kinda move to remove this from the playbook but I would have wanted to move on.

IMO - In hindsight the move would have been in the negotiations to let him walk and scout a QB who would be less expensive and allow you to bring in other pieces. Things were fucked up when Demond did it the way he did though because it created a situation where UW was also beholden to his contract and they had to take him back. So now everyone is fucked.

I have been saying this since before Jedd took him back. This became, and remains, the absolutely biggest strike against the Fischer of men.

UW did not have to refuse to allow him to enter the portal. If he went thru with his announced intentions, then the damage recovery would have paid well for a game manager QB and one or two other BADLY needed pieces. Jedd is just a little too enamored with his own capabilities for the good of UW.

FishStick will regret this bad move

Yes, it appears that they had about a 10 minute period to do a a brand new way of walking sign and trade deal with LSU to allow the kid to move for a cash settlement and then have the funds to pick up players and another QB. I think that is what LSU had in mind, we just might now have been bright enough in the moment to realize it and execute. At least that is my take.

Feel like if he were truly enamored with his capabilities he would have let Williams walk at a hefty price. Try to win big with the Stanford kid or Kini, thus proving his superior play calling to the world. I think contrary to what he's been saying out loud about the playoffs this year he knows unless he has a clearly improved Williams as his QB, this roster isn't good enough to make a playoff run if they start just a game manager. Even with an added #1 WR and a proven DE they just wouldn't have enough. Williams will need to take that mythical step and throw for something like 3800, run for 800 and avoid the brown socks against the best competition. In other words, he needs a super human effort at QB to propel this roster tote playoffs.

I say this but I actually believe that UW has its best/most talented roster since 2023. I just don't think Williams will be the QB when they play Indiana or Oregon. I think he plays hard until UW loses a game. Then he gets "hurt" and redshirts. IMHO the only way he plays the last two games next year is if UW is undefeated when the Hoosiers come to town. Otherwise the playoffs are out and he'll shut it down to get his two more years to make amazing college money before his CFL career starts and he's required to take a hefty pay cut.

The depressing part to me is I don't even know how much the 4 or 4.5 mil from Demond would do with a roster like UW's at this point. I saw an announcement that former UW commit Mark Nabou is supposedly getting paid like 1.4 mil to play at A&M for one more year? So 3-4 more of those level of guys? How big of a difference does that make? Is that guy even much better than Hatchett or Henning? Unless you're a program like Ohio State that has been stacking blue chip guys out of high school for years who can then selectively take a few expensive portal guys, I still think you're behind the 8 ball and UW praying that Demond turns into Jesus in his third year may be their best hopeless bet.
