Arizona State University head football coach Herm Edwards today announced that Marvin Lewis, the Cincinnati Bengals' all-time leader in wins, will join the Sun Devil football staff as special advisor to Sun Devil Football.

"Marvin Lewis is one of the most respected minds in our game," said Edwards. "Whether as the winningest coach in the franchise history of the Cincinnati Bengals, or the architect of one the greatest defenses in NFL history, the 2000 Baltimore Ravens, Marvin has succeeded everywhere he has been and he has done it the right way. His passion for teaching will be an incredible benefit not only for our coaches, but also for the young men we are responsible for as students and athletes."
 
Unfortunately I see this as more likely to go right than wrong for ASU. Sure, it could backfire but bringing in Lewis has a lot of potential positives.

What does @MonteKiffinDawg have to say about this? Plenty of examples of good (Carroll) and bad (Donatell) NFL coordinators coaching in college. Lewis might be a Tedford influence and he may be the same guy who coached the Bengals. Who fucking knows.
 
Lewis is the best coach the Bengals have ever had. Even with two Super Bowl trips back in the ice age

People are underestimating both Herm and Lewis

Edit to add that Lewis was the DC for the Ravens 2000 Super Bowl winners

I know it was the ice age and all but I could make an argument that Paul Brown was a pretty good coach. He also was more than happy to say fuck you to Cleveland by making the Bengals uniforms look just like his former namesake.

He was better at Cleveland but it was Forrest "Gump" Gregg and Sam Wyche who got the Bengals to the SB

Lewis got the Bengals to the playoffs plenty of times. Seven to be exact. Unfortunately getting there wasn't the problem for Marv.

You busted me for overexaggerating a little yes. 2-11 combined playoff record for the both of them. They are mediocre head coaches
