Yes, Drake's subject matter is more mature than Smith's was, but the game has evolved a ton in the 25+ years since Parents Just Don't Understand came out. Like Fresh Prince, Drake is the safe option of his era for suburban white kids who know they don't want to be into a white rapper (Vanilla Ice/Macklemore).

But they're the same dude - undeserved Grammy awards (again, because they're "safe"), acting careers, big smiles and light skin, all adding up to mainstream acceptance that goes way beyond their talents.

Ouch. You're pretty far off the mark on this one. Yes, the game has changed, but to compare Drake's music which is mostly about partying, drugs, women, and getting butthurt to Getting Jiggy Wit It is a huge stretch. I get the criticism of Drake and he is an annoying emo rapper who raps about how hard his life is, but he's one of the more talented mainstream rappers. It's annoying to listen to a guy with all the money in the world whine so much. Drake has more talent in his pinkie than Rick Ross, Wiz Khalifa, French Montana, 2 Chainz, Young Jeezy, Lil Wayne. The guy can also sing.

Suburban kids are into all the rappers. They are into 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne, Jay Z, and Kanye West too. It's not 1990 anymore. The majority of all of those guys fan bases are probably white. All the rap concerts I've been to, have been mostly white. Other than having light skin and dabbling in acting (a lot of rappers do), Drake has almost nothing in common with Will Smith.

Now all those names are pretty bad but, "2 chains" and "french montana" have to be two of the dumber ive ever heard of. French fucking montana. What does that even mean
