One thing I love about this is it allows us to focus in on one or two guys down the stretch and maybe go for a long shot croot who we haven’t even been talking about. Basically any kid who doesn’t sign during the early signing period is a free agent whether they are committed or not. Also allows us to get a huge head start on c/o 19 while the rest of the conference is still worrying about this year.

No longer can USC go for all of our four star guys after the five star guys they are going for who love all the attention figure it out late. The early signing day really works in our favor and melds with Pete’s recruiting philosophy.

I make no qualms about the fact that I am a emotional wreck when it comes to this. The 365 day cycle is like one big game to me (off top of my head):

1st quarter (2017 Signing Day-spring ball-ish):

pretty excited about some high end guys, but was VERY concerned we wouldn’t land a lot of 4* type players. I fucking said we’d be lucky to get 7 if I remember right, haha, good job. Was very happy our skill guys and QBs were set!

2nd quarter (spring ball to June-ish):

Dennis gets me worried that Huff can’t recruit, even though I told him he looked to connect really well with his players at spring ball. I accept Dennis’ anger and hatred and start to question Huff. We haven’t had a commit for two months and I am convinced I WAS RIGHT!!!1!

3rd quarter (June-ish to season opener):

Huff lands three OL that I love, hehehehe FUCK YOU DENNIS I WAS RIGHT INITIALLY BEFORE YOU SWAYED ME! Now absolutely convinced we will have a shitty defensive class because Lake is neutered and Malloe sucks and Kwat can’t connect and Gregory likes climbing. Not convinced on Dom Hampton who commits during this time.

4th Quarter (Opening Game through Now):

OH SHIT DOM HAMPTON LOOKS LIKE KEVIN KING BUT BIGGER. Go through a really dark period where I am convinced we won’t get anyone of consequence on defense at all. This is solidified when we get commits from Liu, Tafisi (who I thought would be part of a Sirmon, tafisi, Wilson LB class), and Dick Newton. Never really got hopes up on Togiai, so whatever. Things change about four weeks ago when it’s clear Gordon is looking at ND hard. Things change 3 weeks ago when Kaho starts showing real interest. Things change about 2 weeks ago when it becomes clear Taimani is coming here. Things change when Gordon visits ND and he is never ducking coming here and won’t visit us even. Things change when the week of his visit it is clear Kaho is gonna sign, BUT DONT FORGET HE WONT SIGN EARLY SO WE ARE FUCKED EVEN IF HE COMMITS. Things change when Kyler visits us. Things change when Kaho Commits. OH SHIT HES GONNA SIGN EARLY TOO. PLEASE SIGN OH GOD.

OVERTIME (Now through February):

Kyler watch and go after big name guys with little stress because we ended up with a great class, JUST LIKE I PREDICTED!!!!1!

There was one dude saying jimmy lake couldn't recruit & was a liability.

Funny, because I know two shits about recruiting your rollercoaster ride is EXACTLY the ride I took as well. Was a fun year. Thanks for taking me along. Dennis and yourself are absolutely the reason I dug deep and payed my 10.95. Well, you and the soft porn in the Wam.
