"Coaching Stats for you "Peterson v. Sark" people - Stats don't lie

From 2009 to 2013 here are some stats

Boise State's average ranking of opponent: 75.2
Washington's average ranking of opponent: 48
USC's average ranking of opponent: 48

*Stat Padding games - aka cupcakes*
Sarkisian's record against 75.2 or worse: 16-2
USC's record against 75.2 or worse: 12-0
Petersen's record against 75.2 or worse: 30-0

*Above average games*
Petersen's record against 48 or better: 7-6
USC's record against 48 or better: 13-17
Sarkisian's record against 48 or better: 10-21

*Games that mattered*
Sarkisian's record against top 25; 4-19
Petersen's record against top 25: 4-3
USC's record against top 25: 5-12

I'm not convinced that Petersen is this almighty coach that we missed out on and that Sarkisian is this horrible dutz of a coach. If you want my data to disprove me, message me and I'll send you my excel file. All non D-1A schools were input as #126 (believe it or not, UW had more than Boise St.)

Here is the way I see it:

If last week after the WSU game, someone offered you that Sark will be gone for sure and you get Petersen would you have taken it? I think 99% of people on here would have been on bored with that.

Sarkisian's record against top 25; 4-19

This is why we all wanted him gone. He couldn't beat good teams ever.

Not only could Sark not beat top 25 teams but he was 4-26 when down at halftime. His teams simply had no inability to come back...even from small deficits. I wonder what CP's record is when down at halftime. For most coaches, the record is probably bad. I'll bet its not 500 but its certainly not 4-26 dreck bad.

And having talent won't help him.

He will get out coached in those games.

His 4-26 record Peter points out is even more evidence he can't coach ... or gets out coached.

It is the very reason I believe he will have 9-10 win seasons, with an occasional 11 win year ... but there will be 2-3 games he just gets out coached ... regardless of talent.

Sark at USC = Lavin at UCLA

I hope he's there forever

Good comparison. Lavin went to the tourney a lot had an an elite 8 or two mixed in. Ultimately was a flop and allowed non basketball schools like Washington, Washington State, Oregon surpass them some years.

USC isn't a threat with Sark. I have a feeling UW-UCLA will have some championship matchups soon.
