I don't think this is a horrible strategy. There will be depth guys looking to transfer after Spring when they realize they're not a starter at tOSU or 'Bama. A lot of those types of guys could either start or big contributors here right away.
 
Huh? I thought the spring portal was gone? So is he talking about adding guys who entered in January, but haven't signed anywhere yet? I'm not against adding oddball sixth year guys who could pop you never know but WR, IOL, DT/DE, and CB are the positions where that makes any sense.
 
The official Spring portal window was eliminated last Fall, but there was talk at that time of players still getting to have one transfer per year, regardless of timing. No clue if that happened or how it was resolved.
