Gee, almost 200 years after the McGuffey Readers and 68 years after "Why Can't Johnny Read" the state of Oregon is going to follow the SCIENCE and adopt phonics as the teaching method to instruct kids how to read. What an indictment of the US public education institutions and yet they still just tell us if we fully funded public education we would be actually educating the kids.

I disagree. I was born immediately with an American birth certificate born abroad. Maybe Canada has a treaty or something that allowed it

Oregon Public Schools have been bottom of the barrel for decades now. Any new direction is welcome in regards to actual learning reading writing and arithmetic.
Or it will be another 100 mill down the tube. I’ll fade the former unfortunately.
Washington’s used to be near the top without much expense per student difference. I remember they were like 7th when I went there. But the woke has taken it down quite a few notches in recent years.
