It was worse than that, a huge percentage of our ruling class and their supporters loved every minute of the misery placed on ordinary Americans. Take the teacher unions and all the federal, state and local government workers who didn't lose a paycheck any yet had months and months of paid vacation while the independent small businesses were destroyed and our kids were abandoned and our cities destroyed.
