Just paying his fair share. Darnold spent a week in San Francisco for the Super Bowl and increased his work days in California subject to apportionment and with his $30 plus million dollar yearly earnings will end up paying more in Cali income taxes than he earned for his week in the state.

That makes no sense.

Not counting preseason and I'm not looking that up, he played three games at student loanshark and jeans stadiums

It's a marginal tax computation. His prior California earnings for his three Cali games was already baked. In this one he got an additional marginal payoff for his extra week in Cali of $178k and that yanked more of his $30 million into play.
