3 straight Rose Bowls pre BCS was pretty rare

I thought to myself how would it be more rare pre the BCS/playoffs when conf winners were removed out of their traditional bowls in the BCS era or blocked (Oregon in 2001 season) since The Rose was the natty.

In the 28 years since the BCS only two teams have played in three straight RBs.
Wisconsin and USC
In the 28 years before the BCS five teams played in three or more* straight RBs.
*Ohio State had a four straight.

I reckon Wisconsin got the Rose Bowl when Ohio State was BCS not for winning the Big Ten 3 in a row
