Washington Poised For Downturn Under Petersen

Petersen's biggest accomplishment was finding Kellen Moore, the floppy-haired lefty most responsible for shifting a formerly ground-and-pound offense into an aerial assault. The pair were immensely successful. Boise State went 50-3 in Moore's four years as starter, including a Fiesta Bowl win in 2009. But the further Petersen is removed from Moore, the more pertinent it is to ask whether the quarterback made him instead of Moore simply being a product of Petersen's genius, as most assumed at the time. To wit, Boise lost seven games in Petersen's final two seasons, or more than twice as many as he did in his inaugural season and all the Moore years combined. A bad run, perhaps, but Petersen also posted three losses in 2007 — as many as that entire five-year glory stretch — before Moore arrived to vault the program back up.

I don't even give a shit if he's right. I suspect he's not, but I don't give a shit if he is.

I like Pete. LIFPO.

I think Pete might be overly focused on Kellen Moore and trying to find a KM clone, but I have to L that PO, too.

We'll see.

In 2015 everyone wants to make these sweeping pronouncements like they're fucking Carnac or some shit.

Also, USC, lol.

Who is the endocrine freak behind CP?

I like to say that a coach was only good because of his QB during a historic run of success that many other programs couldn't match.

I like to ignore that the coach still does a lot of other shit like: recruit the QB, Hire the coaches, Instill the culture, develop a nasty defense, recruit other players besides QB, etc.

If the QB was the only thing that mattered in football, Cal would be the favorite in the conference this year.

Petersen may suck here, but anyone can suck anywhere, it doesn't discredit what he did at Boise.

If I'm being fair, Petersen deserves time to install his players and system before he is judged.

But then again, 15 games.

And nobody ever said I have to be fair.

And on the Hawkins to Petersen transition, people forget that BSU didn't really start playing defense until Petersen took over. Hawkins is a kinda strange guy. I think he was happy to outscore people and collect the ESPN Thursday Night accolades. Petersen, despite being an OC, got them to score 50 points and hold the other team to 10.

Pete got here and ripped everything down to the studs. He did not play to our talent, he didn't really even try very hard to win games last year. He just installed his system and said "do it my way". I mean, they futzed around a little here and there, but it was obvious he just said F it.

He's trying to build shit from the bottom up. I don't know if it will work, but that's what he's doing.

That's why I'm not so worried about losing all our good players on D this year. We lost fucking Marcus Peters in the middle of the year, replaced him with a true freshman and were better as a team afterward—and that dude (MP) might be the best CB to ever play at Washington.

Where do we sign up for a bad run like that?

Not to mention that savior QB, wasn't highly drafted and hasn't done anything in the league, if he's still there.

But still
