The people who understand economics are losing to the people who don't.

That's not a failure of education. That's democracy working exactly as designed.

The system doesn't reward being right. It rewards being popular. Always has. An idea doesn't need to be true. It just needs to sound good to 51% of the room.

"Tax the rich" doesn't need to survive a single economics class. It just needs to survive a campaign cycle. And it does. Every time.

The people who actually understand what happens when you set prices, raise minimum wages, and redistribute wealth have been documenting it for decades. It doesn't matter. The evidence doesn't vote.

This isn't a bug. This is the machine running exactly the way it was built to run. The people at the top of that machine don't need to be right. They need to be convincing. And convincing is cheaper than correct.

The question isn't "why don't people listen to economists?"

The question is "why would they?"

Nobody ever won an election by telling people what they didn't want to hear.

Thomas Sowell spent 60 years telling people what they didn't want to hear. That's why you've never seen him on a ballot, a talk show, or a White House guest list.

And that's exactly why he matters.

I remember seeing an entire thread on Reddit dedicated to basically calling Sowell an Uncle T/race traitor by those same social justice warriors who want to convince you that voter ID is racist because minorities can’t find a DMV or log onto the internet.

It makes it easy to understand how these people are only capable of coalescing around ideas and themes that serve their existing world view.

It’s the kind of mass thinking that might lead the president of the United States to say, “vote for me or you ain’t black” and it really crystallizes the notion that a lot of these people are just bad human beings.

Think of it this way. The prior administration created the biggest human rights disaster in our nation’s history at the southern border. It was essentially state sponsored human trafficking where the stated purpose was open borders for all mankind or some such absurd nonsense, when in reality it was about kowtowing to the vocal fringe within their electorate while pushing for more congressional power via census numbers.

The end result had been a rise in poverty, crime, and tens of thousands of missing minors but hey….the ends seemed to justify the means, right? And if we can gaslight 51% of the country into believing that ICE officers carrying out lawful deportations are nazi foot soldiers and swing a midterm election it’ll all be worth it.

Not to mention lying through their teeth about voter registration and Medicare benefits.

When Gavin Newsom wins the DNC primary it’s gonna tell you everything you need to know. Never before has a governor been so damaging to his own state’s well being yet gained so much national profile in the process.
