Took the ol’ Airstream out today for about 7-8 days. Ended up our 1st 2 nights in a state park at Cumberland Falls, KY. We’re not too far from Cumberland Gap which some accounts is a devil of a gap.
Arrived at the park, office is empty. Found out it’s not open until Wednesday but there’s a lodge about a mile away with park employees and most importantly, firewood.
Speaking of firewood, it’s my not so vast experience to discover that all the National/State/RV parks don’t allow outside wood because of some kinda bug infestation or something. Because I’m a cheap bastard, I’ve discovered that if you’re in a place that does this and has tent camping, there’s usually firewood to be had for free.
Our parking spot is wide but short, kinda like me. Mrs Nacho and I say around the fore tonight and both agreed it was a good day because neither of us swore at or tried to kill the other one in my retarded attempts to back this 28 foot burrito in the campsite.
Finally, I leave you with a picture of jerky from Boise City or just plain Boise, OK in ‘99. An Army buddy and I once did a round trip driving a U-Haul truck full of unit equipment from Fort Carson, CO to Fort Polk, LA for a training exercise. Our bosses expected us to make it in 2.5-3 days but it took us 4 days to see the sites along the way.
On the way back, we had a flat tire outside this panhandle town. My buddy bummed a ride to call for a tire change and found this amazing brand of jerky that’s been one of my favorites ever since. I found it today in Kentucky and it made my day.
