NY did post 2020 census redistricting before anyone but ok.
 
New York used the post census data to reflect population changes. It also got struck down anyway.

Texas isn’t using the census, instead doing a mid decade redistricting push.

You already know all this of course, you just refuse to admit that Hot Wheels fucked up.
 
I admit that Trump was involved and Republicans are very weak in actually executing anything that their voters want. Texas could have gone much further than they did. And in hindsight should have. And other red states pussed out. Texas is an excuse to use, Dems know that 2030 census is gonna out a lot and that is what this whole change is in response to. I’m all for cleaning up all this stuff once to VRA racial districts aren’t a legal thing anymore, combined with a new census before 2030 that excludes illegals.

Oceania doesn't fit neatly into the left/right spectrum, and that's largely intentional on Orwell's part.

Why it defies the traditional left-right divide:

- Superficially leftist origins: The Party emerged from a socialist revolutionary movement. It uses the language of equality and collective welfare ("for the proles"), and the aesthetic trappings resemble Soviet communism.

- But functionally far-right in practice: It's built on authoritarian hierarchy, a permanent ruling class (the Inner Party), ultranationalism, militarism, and the crushing of any egalitarian ideals. There's no actual redistribution of power or wealth.

Orwell's point was the convergence: He was a democratic socialist who had witnessed Stalinism firsthand. His argument was that totalitarianism — whether it calls itself communist or fascist — ends up in the same place: a boot stamping on a human face forever. The ideology ("Ingsoc" = English Socialism) is just a tool of control, not a genuine governing philosophy.

What Oceania actually is: A self-perpetuating oligarchy that uses ideological branding to justify its existence, while the real goal is simply power for its own sake. O'Brien states this explicitly to Winston — there's no pretense of serving any higher cause.
