One school is talking to the Big 12, the other is not.

Oregon is the national brand, but UW is the credibility. You need both. One appeals to the networks and drives the money while the other appeals to the ADs and Presidents that actually make the decision.

People ignore how closely tied the UW and UO admins are. The fans hate each other, but the school admins have a very different relationship. In many ways these schools have more in common and communicate better with each other than they do with their respective instate sibling universities.
