What it means is that I don't view McLaughlin as a great player and wouldn't want to pay him as such
I'm very willing to pay him as a good to very good player
I'd be surprised if he ever rises above a Day 3 NFL pick in terms of quality … pay him as such

McLaughlin needs to graduate a Husky fuck off.
You don't offload one of the positive aspects of your season.

I don't think McLaughlin is a big time NFL guy or anything, but a good college player who is the kind of player you need and a guy who even teams like Oregon and Ohio State have at spots. I wish we would have had a McLaughlin who played through stingers against Oregon come in at corner this year instead of a guy who sat in our two biggest games and forced a true freshman to come in and get shredded.

I'm not advocating that we run McLaughlin off … I've never actually said that
What I have said is that he's a good to very good player … not an elite player
Your comments are mirroring that view
I'm all for paying McLaughlin at the good to very good player level
If he's looking for elite levels of pay then I think we can probably leverage our resources better

It’s based on nothing but I’m worried about Batman aka RDA. His dad loves Notre Dame and he probably didn’t play as much as he should have.

Eklund has me slightly worried. One or two LB’s most certainly will go. The Coug, and one of Manu/Bryant would not surprise me.
RDA is the safety? He would be a big loss.

I feel like Manu stays but Bryant is probably an odd man out and I’d go 50/50 on the Coug leaving.
RDA should be starting as a true soph and I badly hope he stays.
Here are the portal guys I see outside of Audric Harris:
WR: Kevin Green Jr.
OL: Elijah Jackett
Edge: Hayden Moore
LB: Deven Bryant (he will get snaps if he stays but probably wants a better shot at starting)
CB: Elias Johnson
S: Paul Mieneke Jr.
I suspect that Armon Parker Jr will medically retire.
I’ll add Vince Holmes and Leroy Bryant. Holmes still hasn’t gotten significant PT and he’s been in the portal before. Bryant lost his starting spot at slot to Clark. Possibly Fasaalo because he’s not got the feet to play P5 OT. As much as I’d like him to stay I could also see Henning dip out, He’ll be a RS Junior next year still sitting behind Hatchett. Buddha might go as well. Coming off injury he’d be sitting at 4th on depth even if Bryant ends up transferring.
I think Henning is better than Hatchett.

I'm not against paying McLaughlin … but I'm not overpaying him either
He's a good but not great player
He could be a great player in 2026 after playing in a major conference. He stood out to me this season, more so than Esteen and any of the corners.
I'd be completely happy with McLaughlin at SS, RDA and FS, and Rahshawn Clark at Nickel in 2026.

That’s been my thought as well. Don’t let any of those three guys walk. I think Day plays backup to McLaughlin and folds into the rotation a lot like RDA did this year. Add in Robinson, a portal CB2 and probably Duncan as your third outside CB and it’s a nice, talented looking group.

so maybe they just need to go find (PAY HANDSOMELY) 3 DL’s and 2 DE’s??
I think DT’s are pretty easy to find and don’t cost that much. Get the support staff to locate upperclass DT’s from smaller schools or guys rotating at big schools and do the homework.

Esteen wasn't good … wouldn't use him as a baseline comparison

There are reasons for that …
Some know why …
I don't feel like I need to make those reasons public
