What was the deal with the high Azzopardi ranking? I think it created a thought that he was an instant stud when I don't actually know where that came from. I thought he was some kind of All Mountain West guy but turned out he wasn't even a full time starter.

That’s why I question everything related to the portal. Everyone sucks until they don’t. The possible idea this staff might not pull in Moe is further proof that UW is poor. He’d be an instant, proven player on the interior THAT THEY RECRUITED TO ARIZONA! Get it done fish or fuck off.

High school TBS rankings are already questionable and always have been and yeah portal ones are in just a different stratosphere. Like last year Dillon Gabriel was like the 70th rated portal guy when he clearly was probably like #1 but it was based on "NFL potential."
Supposedly having no shot at Moe is a horrible, horrible sign unless suddenly it looks like UW is going to sign a few Marcus Bryant type players, which I really doubt.

Marcus Bryant was a disappointment for Missouri BTW and SMU didn’t seem to miss him. Roll of the dice, everyone after the obvious kids that all end up at 4-5 schools is a crapshoot. FSU cleaned up in the portal last year, or so they thought, and they weren’t what they expected when put together as a team. Good thing I’m familiar with disappointment!
 
Moe was recruited by the UW staff. Arizona was his only P5 offer, I think he was committed to Mercer or Campbell. They developed him into a 2nd team all P12 guard. His level of play suffered under a different staff and he’s not considering UW. We? poor.

Is the second portal period most of the 2nd/3rd stringers from the teams playing in games that actually matter?

Yes. Second portal is generally where guys stayed somewhere to compete for a spot and lost.

This NFL potential based rating idea is a fucking joke. It just opens the door further for them to remove all objectivity and rate prospects based on whatever fuzzy criteria they choose, such as who kicks them the most money.
