UW Couch Sales & Purchases (Portal Tracker)

I read the article and remembered some posters here than ran the recruiting board that said high school stats don’t matter. It didn’t matter that Savell Smalls had no sacks, he was good.
That needs to be the philosophy in the transfer portal. Rather take players moving up from G6 or FCS than hand-me-downs from other P4 schools

Look at Alex McLaughlin producing at NAU and then being our best DB last year

That is a poor team's/man's approach and quite possibly the one Jedd is stuck with. This is likely how he keeps his job as he is somewhat good at evaluating (and developing) talent from below. I still think the only non-losing move for UW was to let Demond go, collect the $4 million in compensation and then buy the DL/Edge help that they will never get due to the high price tag. And go with an unproven game manager already on the roster. And, yes, that involved some risk but most advancement does. There is just not enough lower division talent available to fill our ? portal hole filling needs.

In a perfect world those crying constantly about UW being poor would have not stopped supporting the school nearly 30 years ago but it is what it is.

Sebastian Valdez is another good FCS pickup. Had he played in 25 instead of 24 he’d of flashed as a pocket pushing lineman. On that 24 roster he was the only guy anyone had to worry about and he had to play 70% of the snaps because that team had no depth. Double and triple team Valdez and let Bandes work against air. That’s what most teams did.

When I saw Smalls live in that playoff game against Woodinville, I was shocked by the lack of effort and dominance, even though he passed the eye test. The only thing about him that night that impressed me was his efforts as a running back.

UW seems firmly locked into a C tier portal capability. Somehow below even Cal. A tier, let's just limit it to Oregon here stole USC's best linemen on both sides of the ball last year. Georgia got the Branch's from USC who made a huge difference. I don't see UW taking a step forward wiht what they're doing, especially if it can't even happen at the positoins where they clearly need something like DE and WR.

UW's best portal guys have been from at worst Big 12 type programs - see Ja'Lynn Polk, Germie Bernard, Dillon Johnson, Carver Willis, Jabbar Muhammad, Jonah Coleman.

That sucks, I liked Macon and thought he'd be good in a year or two.

But the transfers plus TI coming in probably made him think his PT (and thus comp package) wouldn't come until his RS-JR year.

I have to think UW will get another 3-tech and maybe a hybrid who can play both 1-tech and 3 tech.

Black Purchase is in the portal. He will be a RS-JR in 2026 and would slot in nicely for the pass rush (6'3" 245 lbs) since Lane, Ward, and Davis will all be Seniors. He was reasonably productive as a back-up with 32 tackles, 2 sacks, and 1 INT.

I'd rather have Purchase than Davis, Purchase can hold up better against the run and is much more durable. Get it done Fisch!

You think udub had enough money to purchase purchase?

Why is that the poor man's approach? Smaller schools are turning to farm systems for the bigger schools.

Plus Penix, obviously. And the majority of those players you listed were transfers before our current regime. UW's transfer portal signings under Fisch leave alot to be desired. I have a very hard time getting excited about continually signing players from the Big Sky when most of 'em don't pass the eye test.

Oregon has 25 kids currently in Portal. We must be close to 20. Currently there are about 2800 D1 kids in the portal of a base of 9700 or so.

If Jedd holds his 1st team meeting tomorrow and looks at the 85 players on scholarship, statistically in three years every one of them will have put their name in the transfer portal.

I am enjoying the current narrative sweeping across college football that if you just portal in a bunch of BYU age juniors and seniors, along with them having production over potential no matter where they came from b/c Kurt C uses that, is the way to get it done.

That is working for Indiana because they have a 1 of 1 unicorn coach who has the secret formula that is the varsity version of Coach Pete's OKG model.

That’s actually his name? Triggered. ISAFNRC

As of right now, we are way in the red on portal departures/arrivals.
I think UW as it currently sits has 82 or 83 roster slots filled. Only 15-16 guys graduated. They signed 25 recruits, they have 18 departures and 7 additions. They aren’t really super short of players right now. I don’t know why you guys think there’s only like 60 guys on the roster.
