UW Coaching Future - As of 11/11/11

You don't wait years for recruits to grow up anymore
You pick them off the vine ready to go
For all the shit I get for being old how come I got the new rules two years ago and the kids are still talking recruiting and needing more time
Read the data why don't you
I’m not a TBS guy but recruiting is still of great importance. You do still wait for a core of the team to develop and you plug holes, add depth, add stars from the portal.

Ohio State doesn’t just portal guys in. They replaced the players on their defense from last year with their own recruits that they developed.
The best teams take the fewest transfers as you astutely just said.

Sorry for the tiny screenshot, also their sorting is broken, but if you're plotting a chart you get the point.

With all the resources available you can’t tell me they couldn’t recruit more offensive linemen. Why did they not go after more tight ends who could play immediately and 2 more O- linemen given how important they are to this team. Literally 4 more players who can block for Coleman and Demond. Thats going to be the difference between a great team and 7-6 Sark like
Just as you typed this Jedd recruited another defensive back

They are trying to walk a balance between plugging roster gaps through the portal and giving paths to playing time to the young players that they've recruited
I don't get the impression that we're going to break the bank for a roster unless it is a legit CFP contender

I think the Oline depth won’t be the biggest issue, next year. G Hatch will be replaced by either Paki or Champ rather easily. LT will be the worry, Jacket can’t put weight on, Hylkma needs a big jump to make the 2 deep, Schafer might be the best of the bunch. Portal help for sure again there.
To me the bigger issue will be CB, if Walters is back and still playing a ton of man in the secondary, who replaces Taco and Prysock? Robinson is the only guy to take meaningful snaps there as a frosh, w/ mixed results. None of the nickel guys can do it, to short and not physical enough. One other frosh of, Clemons, Ramonz and Elias will have to make a huge jump to cover it. Portal heavy.
The depth @ RB is worrisome too, who’s gonna split carries w/ Mohammed? Bonner better be the real deal as frosh..
Assuming that Jedd stays and the recruiting class is retained then you're likely looking at Kodi Greene starting at LT next year

Recruiting is still the foundation for any program
If you're going to rely on the portal to build top-end teams year after year you better have a war chest to be the highest bidder for the few actually impactful players that reach the portal and you better be a bit shady at enticing players to the portal.
I don't think that's a path UW would take

Times have changed gramps
Hanging onto Fisch who isn't a great recruiter and can't get portal guys is suicide
The old wait three years then fire him after 4 approach
Bad data there
Locksley at Maryland was crowing about his great recruiting in year 7. Franklin's great recruiting is on a 7 game losing streak
Why didn't Cigarette need 4 years to develop a line? Because he can fucking coach in today's world
Like DeBoer and unlike Fisch
God to know that our program is in the hands of like minded folks like you that are clueless
There are very few great coaches. We don't have one. Fire him after Oregon

The Purdue game will either:
A. With any kind of win, up to a 15+ point win, delay actually knowing more until on the road at UCLA.
B. Turn what is now a campfire into a 5 alarm inferno if we somehow struggle and lose.

Against a team this bad, and us being at home, there are only really neutral or negative outcomes in my view.

I don't think Purdue is as bad as some people think. They might actually be better than Wisconsin. Since UW as at home I think they'll be fine though.
We went from take it game by game to see if UW can get a fake playoff run this year to game by game can Judd salvage anything this year. He needs to win out to do that. Otherwise, we go 8-4 and then go 9-3 in 2026 and the minuscule record improvement with easier schedules each year thing gets leveraged for a long time.

Is "fine" winning by 17 or more?
How's your confidence meter on laying the wood?

Just win at this point.

Shit, I would hope so.
If they even struggle much at home with Purdue, we really are going in the wrong direction.

I put in the prediction thread UW beats Purdue by 10-14. Not overly confident about that though and they just need to win.
