Jedd's the favorite at +200
For perspective +200 is the same number as St Nick being the next HC at LSU
I still hold to the opinion that a new coaching search for UW is less than ideal. One of the names that you'd probably want to talk to if you were going down the path of a new search (Eric Morris - North Texas) is the favorite for Oklahoma St. It's not an ideal time to be searching.
That said, making a move that would "extend" Jedd here is still problematic and full of risk that was only magnified by the loss at Wisconsin.
I didn't view his comments on Monday this week as anything more than highlighting his resume of accomplishments at UW and on the PR side. The family stuff was appreciated but of all the things that a coach can talk about that the average fan probably doesn't fully understand, everybody can put them into the position of being a spouse and parent.
In the end, it's an actions > words thing with Jedd and he's not really earned enough for his words to be 100% trusted. The betting markets confirm that.
Whether Jedd already has a deal in place or an inside track, etc. at UCLA is TBD. If he's been trying to leverage UCLA (and others) for more at Washington … that's always a dangerous game if your bluff gets called on by your AD … and in this case this is an AD at UW that didn't hire you and has no direct ties to you.
I do think people need to realize with this 2025 team that the depth isn't where it needs to be to compete at the top levels yet and the OL highlights that the most. We saw the struggles earlier this year w/o Willis and Mills. Then at Wisconsin you have 2 different OL (G Hatchett and Azzopardi) go out and everything stalls again. There's talent but the depth isn't awesome. There's signs that the recruiting is moving in the right direction and that the young players that Jedd has on the roster (plus looking back at his recruits at Arizona) to suggest that he's doing well in terms of program building. The road record is obviously a growing red flag.
I don't envy anybody in this situation …
But I again note that if Jedd leaves there's a really good chance that this program will take a step or two back from where it is. IF that happens and we're going to continue down the path of expecting the CFP in Year 2 of someone's tenure … this is probably not going to be an attractive job and we're going to continue to be our own worst enemy as a program.
I still lean towards allowing Jedd 1-2 more years to prove whether he can get over the hump or not. If he can't then your program will still be in a better spot than what he inherited (DeBoer left a steaming pile of garbage). If he does and chooses to leave then hopefully its to the NFL and the program is in a position to make an attractive hire.
I'm rarely an advocate of kicking the can down the road … this very well may be one of those rare instances where it's the best option available.

Jed’s is not going anywhere and it’s more a testament to the last 15 years at UW and his history that it’s even a discussion. UF and UCLA jobs blow…Jed was just hoping to get a raise to cover his donation to the facilities and it’s blown up in his face because he’s too cute of a play caller and the OL drop off after the starters is absolutely massive.

I’d add Mohammad will never be a RB1…bet it’s the freshman next year.

The line thing is so frustrating because all we heard was “Last year, we only had SEVEN O linemen for spring ball and now we have SEVENTEEN so our depth is sure to be so much better.” And “we’re confident in our ability to develop our OL.” That was the rationale for only taking Willis and G Hatchett in the portal.
Seems like we have mostly JAGs and next year doesn’t appear different without a big OL portal push.

Whiffing on all the Arizona linemen has been less than ideal.

Agree 100% that Jedd's handled this all very poorly if he ends up back at UW next year
He's brought a lot of this discussion on himself unnecessarily … do your job and if you're committed to a place you handle your extension behind the scenes and not leveraging the public
The Rhule extension to me is a very solid guide here of what should be on the table

The depth is better but still not good
Get a couple more classes where you have early impact players like Mills come in and then allow those guys to get older and then you're going to have a good OL
When we play any solid (or better) front 7 our OL limitations become very obvious

With all the resources available you can’t tell me they couldn’t recruit more offensive linemen. Why did they not go after more tight ends who could play immediately and 2 more O- linemen given how important they are to this team. Literally 4 more players who can block for Coleman and Demond. Thats going to be the difference between a great team and 7-6 Sark like

Why exactly would the program be in better shape if he left in a few years?
A mass Exodus is the new standard regardless if he builds whatever pile of shit he's building.

If we fired him in the normal cycle we’d be hit no worse than anyone else. The January thing fucked us more than anything. That and Judd could close the deal on his lineman.

I think the Oline depth won’t be the biggest issue, next year. G Hatch will be replaced by either Paki or Champ rather easily. LT will be the worry, Jacket can’t put weight on, Hylkma needs a big jump to make the 2 deep, Schafer might be the best of the bunch. Portal help for sure again there.
To me the bigger issue will be CB, if Walters is back and still playing a ton of man in the secondary, who replaces Taco and Prysock? Robinson is the only guy to take meaningful snaps there as a frosh, w/ mixed results. None of the nickel guys can do it, to short and not physical enough. One other frosh of, Clemons, Ramonz and Elias will have to make a huge jump to cover it. Portal heavy.
The depth @ RB is worrisome too, who’s gonna split carries w/ Mohammed? Bonner better be the real deal as frosh..

Doesn’t seem like a money issue either. Tacario got signed late and supposedly we had another bag for Thaddeus Dixon ready to go too. So either Judd couldn’t close on any lineman with big money to offer or he’s a fucking dumbass for loading up all the money at corner.

Fire him now. I don't care if that means a bad season next year. Next year has no chance of being great. I want great or bust. He is what he is.

Dan Mullen at UNLV is an equivalent trade for Fisch right now…pay him $5-6 million a year (with a $25 million buyout for all 5 years of his contract) if Fisch is gone. + a $2 million bonus if he makes the playoffs. Hire an expensive DC and OC to 2-3 year contracts with decent buyouts included. Get a DL coach that can recruit well.
UW is poor until 2030. UW doesn't have to pay a lot for their next HC until 2030.

Both Fisch and Mullen are 8-4-type-coaches.

You don't wait years for recruits to grow up anymore
You pick them off the vine ready to go
For all the shit I get for being old how come I got the new rules two years ago and the kids are still talking recruiting and needing more time
Read the data why don't you

lol these odds are such a load of horseshit, how are they even derived? For game lines and O/U and all that they have whatever super secret data driven state of the art algorithms. This is outright make believe, and using it as a source is incredibly stupid.

They are derived by what will make them the most money and nothing more

I’m not a TBS guy but recruiting is still of great importance. You do still wait for a core of the team to develop and you plug holes, add depth, add stars from the portal.

Ohio State doesn’t just portal guys in. They replaced the players on their defense from last year with their own recruits that they developed.
